Location/Schedule: This position is located at the Plaza Health Center, in SE Portland. The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Position Overview: The Money Management Specialist provides essential support to clients with severe and persistent mental illness by managing Social Security payee-ship services, budgeting, and financial skills training. Working closely with clients and their treatment team, this role ensures financial stability and supports a trauma-informed environment. Duties include managing individual budgets, disbursing funds per client plans, monitoring account balances, and collaborating with clinical staff to align financial support with client treatment goals.

Responsibilities

Create and maintain monthly budgets for clients, identifying expenses and dispersing funds for essential needs and personal spending.Collaborate with clinicians and residential management to align money management with client treatment plans.Disburse funds during designated Money Management hours, providing check-ins with clients to reinforce positive financial behaviors.Track client accounts, update budgets as necessary, and prepare monthly fees.Maintain client demographic and financial records, ensure compliance with HIPAA, and perform mandatory abuse reporting.Engage in basic behavioral interventions with clients and report observations to clinical staff.Maintain safety protocols for clients, staff, and property, and assist the team during potentially volatile situations.

Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; relevant college coursework preferred.Familiarity with mental and emotional health issues and substance abuse/dependency.Basic understanding of accounting principles; experience with QuickBooks preferred.Typing proficiency of 50 wpm, familiarity with office equipment, and advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, with completion of Cascadia’s Defensive Driving course.

Working Conditions

This role is primarily office-based, with extended periods of sitting and standing and requires proficiency in computer use. The Money Management Specialist may occasionally lift items up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, and assist in crisis situations.
