Monitor Room Technician -- Telemetry -- Plateau Medical Center Hospital

Job Summary

Monitors patients’ EKG waveforms, rhythms, and vital signs at the central monitor station. The monitor technician provides the nurses and physicians with precise analysis of cardiac rhythms through oral communication and written documentation. The monitor technician detects abnormal pattern variances and notifies the primary nurse immediately.

 

Responsibilities

• Interprets patients EKG patterns • Works closely with the bedside nurse as medication adjustments are being implemented • Communicates critical arrhythmias to the primary nurse, recognizing the significance of the interpretation and need for appropriate intervention. • Print and interpret rhythm strips every eight hours, identifying PR, QRS, and QT intervals • Legibly document rhythm change or new occurrences and notifying nursing • Ensure alarms are on and properly set at all times • Respond appropriately to emergent rhythms • Verify correct patient information is entered into the central monitoring station to assure accuracy for recording rhythms • Maintain equipment operations and reports any malfunctions to clinical engineering immediately • Completes assignments before the end of the shift, communicates outstanding issues to the next shift for follow up • Provide verbal report to the oncoming monitor technician

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Education 

• High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: 1 year of previous EKG experience

 

Credentials 

• Basic Life Support (Required) Within 30 days of hireWithin 30 days of hire
