Summary of Job Duties:The Monitor Tech is a trained member of the nursing team within the Telemetry department. Monitor Technicians provide 24/7 telemetry monitoring and observation for inpatients from all disciplines throughout the hospital. The department focus is aiding in identification and prevention of acute cardiac and respiratory events, providing additional monitoring as needed, and to ensure our patients receive the highest possible care available. The Telemetry department strives to maintain the most updated evidence-based practices and equipment needed to facilitate our goals. Monitor Technicians are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach we implement at UAMS.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED, or formal educational equivalent.  Six (6) months direct patient care related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience interpreting rhythms.Certified as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.Current BLS.At least one (1) year of direct patient care related experience.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

Works in Telemetry Unit.Responsible for monitoring patients on remote telemetry.  Responsible for interpreting rhythm strips.Notifies nursing staff of changes in patient status,Maintains equipment. Must pass the all required competencies. Works within the Department of Nursing standards. Adheres to UAMS clinical programs policies, procedures and standards for patient family centered care.Must complete training that is provided that includes the dysrhythmia course and basic life support (BLS).May perform other duties as assigned.

Special knowledge, abilities and skills:

Must complete the dysrhythmia course within 90 day evaluation period and maintain competency as a telemetry technician. Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 50 poundsEmployee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.
