Monitor Tech - Telemetry

**JOB SUMMARY:**
Under the supervision of the Cardiac Monitoring Center Supervisor, the Monitor Tech is responsible for ongoing surveillance of patient cardiac monitors. Maintains patient specific cardiac telemetry records for monitored patients. Reports abnormalities, instabilities, or changes in patients’ cardiac rhythm to the nursing care team. Ensures monitors are functioning properly. Position could require some overtime and/or mandatory “on call” to maintain 24 hour coverage of cardiac monitor surveillance. Must follow accepted safety practices for patients and hospitals. Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.
Must participate in safety instructional programs.
**MINIMAL ACCEPTABLE JOB QUALIFICATIONS**
**Registration/Certification/Licensure:** None required.
**Education/Experience:** Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED); successful completion of basic EKG lesson
provided by hospital is required prior to first working shift; successful completion of monitor tech 12 lead course within 30 days of date in position is also required.
**In addition, must meet one of the following:**
+ One year experience in monitoring ECG/dysrhythmia in a physician office, clinic, hospital or medicallyrelated environment;
+ One year clinical experience;
+ Completion of an Associate’s degree in a science related field;
+ Completion of 24 credit hours toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in a science related field.
+ Completion of EKG certificate program
**JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:**
+ Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, verbal and written.
+ Demonstrates a basic understanding of the anatomy/physiology of the heart and patient cardiac rhythms and interpretation for related variances.
+ Demonstrates working knowledge of telemetry lead placement for accurate cardiac rhythm analysis.
+ Requires analytical and organizational skills to document, monitor and follow up with nursing staff as required.
+ Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to establish and maintain positive therapeutic/working relationships with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
+ Demonstrates ability to coordinate several activities simultaneously.
