Job Overview:

The Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides Rns and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in the cardiac rhythms. The technician delivers telemetry to inpatient units and performs monitor connections and discharges, patient preparation, and teaching related to the monitor.

Qualifications:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalentSuccessful completion of all orientation programs

Preferred:

Telemetry and/or successful completion of a cardiac dysrhythmia course

Essential Functions:

Demonstrates and maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider ordersMeasures, interprets and document all elements required for cardiac rhythm strip interpretation and place on patient s chartNotifies RN of episodes of class III arrhythmias and documents appropriately. Gives reports to oncoming shiftDocuments all elements required for cardiac rhythm strip interpretationDemonstrates positive guest relations by introducing self to patient and family; providing privacy and sensitivity and exhibiting tact and compassion at all times regardless of circumstances. Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providersPerforms clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry Answers telephone/vocera and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythmOrients and mentors new staff members. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both Central Telemetry and clinical areas. Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work volume, emergencies, staffing and schedule changesMaintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry, and transport monitors. Notifies Clinical Director of missing and broken transmitters and malfunctioning cardiac monitors. Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to BiomedPerforms job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Monmouth Medical CenterPerforms other duties as requested
