Motor Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic

Overview:

Lead in the repairs and upgrades of medium sized and heavy equipment, trucks and transportation vehicles by listening to team members and operator’s description of malfunctions, conducting and assist in tests, identifying problems and helping in finding resolutions. Submit and review purchase order requests for parts. Maintain a safe work environment by verifying vehicle safety device operation; following standards and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains equipment and vehicle fleet and vehicle serviceability by completing and reviewing preventive maintenance requirements and repairs to include; hydraulics systems, electrical systems, and drive train overhauling. Diagnosing and assisting in diagnostics to identify the source of trouble and determine the extent of repairs required; replace or assist in replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.

Primary Responsibilities: Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors. Submit or review purchase order request for parts. Maintaining a safe work environment by verifying vehicle safety device operation; following standards and procedures. Maintaining vehicle serviceability by completing preventive maintenance requirements and repairs to include; hydraulics systems, electrical systems, and drive train overhauling. Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; lead in replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education and/or Experience: Must have High School Diploma or GED (May substitute experience for education on a year-by-year basis). Equivalent training/ experience, and seven years of general experience of which three years must be related experience are required. In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Preferred candidate will have experience with numerous equipment model lines. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded knowledge and skills with a variety of makes and models. Ability to work as a team player. Knowledge and ability to follow shop safety rules and regulations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Florida Driver’s License required. CDL preferred.

Work Environment:

Works in shop/warehouse environment. Work involves repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time. Work is of a physical nature and requires the incumbent be able to lift 50 lbs overhead and/or repetitively. Outside work in hot and cold or wet weather is occasionally required.
