Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Recycling Center at Wright Patterson AFB. The purpose of position is to operate motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 pounds, and up to 26,000 pounds. Responsibilities Operates and performs operator maintenance on one or more vehicles to include: platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, ambulances, passenger shuttle vans, cargo vans, refuse trucks, container trucks and semi-trucks with flat bed/enclosed trailers with gross weight of more than 10,000 pounds and up to 26,000 pounds. Operates vehicle through all kinds of traffic, or over rough terrain, depending upon the type of vehicle being operated. Loads and unloads cargo by hand. Exercises caution in preventing overloading and in securing cargo to prevent damage or loss in transit and for the safety and comfort of passengers. Determines shortest and safest routes. Observes safety rules, regulations, and posted traffic controls and highway guide signs. Washes vehicles. Performs other related duties as assigned. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have skill in maneuvering and driving vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds and up to 26,000 pounds. Must have knowledge of sizes and weights of vehicles. Must have and maintain a Class A Commercial driver's License (CDL). Must be able to frequently handle objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Must be able to exert light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. Must be skilled in all facets of maneuvering and driving vehicles. Must know the sizes and weights of vehicles and be able to judge overhead and size clearances, turning radius, and braking distances. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License in accordance with state regulations if transporting 16 or more passengers, including the driver, off the installation Moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs. Frequent handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Lifting and securing safety chains, towbars, and hooks. Work is mostly outside and in all kinds of weather. Exposed to dirt, fumes, and the possibility of cuts and bruises. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads. Exposed to danger of serious accidents. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.
