Summary The position is primarily responsible for leading and maintaining the warehouse employees and alternate storage facilities. Responsible for scheduling daily activities and assignments to accomplish the receipt, storage and distribution of all supplies and equipment purchased for use at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Medical Center, outpatient clinics in Charlotte, Hickory and Winston-Salem and the Veteran Centers in Greensboro and Charlotte. Responsibilities The position serves as working leader of three or more employees with responsibility for a complete warehousing operation involving a variety of warehousing functions with minimal guidance and instruction. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, works along with other employees and sets the pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led. Ensures that sufficient work is available to keep employees busy. Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines. Answers works questions concerning procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work causes of delay, recommend solutions, and overall work operations and problems. Provides on-the-job training for new employees. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed and informs supervisor of any safety violations. Performs all the tasks in one or more of the following duties: Operates large vehicles such as cargo trucks, stake trucks and vans with weights exceeding 33,000 pounds with loads and air brakes to make deliveries and pick-ups at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center and surrounding outpatient clinics. Utilizes Integrated Funds Distribution, Control Point Activity, Accounting and Procurement (IFCAP) computer terminals, utilizing the warehouse menu and display items to check in items and check inventory on stock items. Position is responsible for the receipt and inspection of incoming supplies and equipment to determine if they meet the applicable specifications and purchase order descriptions while checking for damages. When damages are noted, position notifies supervisor and take appropriate actions. Position receives and delivers hazardous materials such as chemicals and compressed gases. Assists with the physical layout of the warehouse in a manual or automated facility. The position may work alone in consolidating materials to provide maximum space utilization and protection of materials Converts package lots to established units of issue. Properly marks and stores stock items in their correct areas in a neat and orderly fashion to facilitate selection for issues and to provide required security. Also rotates stock to ensure the First In, First Out procedures are followed. Selects items for issue from Credit Issue Vouchers for delivery to using service after pre-obligation, as required. Makes sure items are receipted for properly. Required to operate electric pallet trucks and forklift. Assists in the assembly and delivery of all new furniture and equipment. Calls in electrical safety checks and attaches Preventive Maintenance (PM) tags when required. Does minor assembly/disassembly of furniture and equipment. Performs supply inventories and systematic reviews. Performs housekeeping duties in the warehouse, restroom and dock area as needed and uses a mechanical electric scrubber within the warehouse. Assists and picks up excess supplies and equipment as required. Prepares packages and labels items for shipment ensuring that they are logged in the "Ship Out Log". Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Exert light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. They exert moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 20 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs. while loading and offloading cargo. May occasional handle heavier objects while loading/unloading cargo or assisting patients, typically with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs, such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways. Greater physical effort may be needed when maneuvering the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing these vehicles. Patient transport vehicle drivers may be required to assist patients into and out of the vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending.
