About the Position: This is a vacancy for the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), 596th US Army Transportation Surface Brigade located at the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) in Southport, North Carolina. Responsibilities Review driver's records to determine possible impact on qualifications Operate various sizes of forklifts capable of lifting up to 15,000 pounds, for the movement, loading, unloading, transfer, transport and stacking Examine applicants for operating license in accordance with Office of Personnel Management and Department of Army (DA) standards Review all loads to ensure they are properly secured and safe for transport Navigate a variety of commercial and tactical equipment with a gross vehicle weight of more than 100,000 pounds Operate gasoline or diesel-powered trucks/truck tractors with trailer or semi-trailer coupled by use of a turntable (fifth wheel) or pintle (pivot) hook Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator (Fork Lift Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. Incumbents' must have the ability as a Master Driver performing duties such as Road Test Examiner and test administrator; also, ability to perform as a mechanics helper when not driving. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Moderate to heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 20 pounds, the occasional handling of objects weighing over 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo, and when climbing on tractors to hook up service lines and to tie down cargo. Physical effort is required to turn the large and heavy vehicles, operate the two braking systems and the additional controls. Working Conditions: Works outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather while loading and unloading. Subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading cargo. Exposed to the possibility of serious accidents while driving in all types of traffic and weather. Any unusual environmental working condition that may arise will be compensated for under an appropriate category of the environmental pay regulations. Exposure to petroleum and hazardous cargo.
