MRAP Mechanic
Overview **This position will be physically located in Kuwait in support of LOGCAP** Under the supervision of the Heavy Equipment Lead, performs full range of Field level and limit Sustainment level maintenance on Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) family of tactical wheeled vehicles. Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Performs the full range of repair and modification work on vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. Inspecting, servicing, maintaining, repairing, replacement, adjusting and testing of wheeled vehicles systems, subsystems and components Service automotive electrical systems including wiring harness and starting and charging systems. Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions. Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices. Repairs, relines, replaces, and adjusts brakes. Follows repair procedures, using charts, and technical manuals. Follows checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas. Tests and adjusts repaired systems to meet military performance specifications. Troubleshoots and diagnoses hydraulic systems. Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups. Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Troubleshoots and diagnoses engine, drivetrain, steering and brake systems. Repairs, adjusts and/or replaces faulty components. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High School graduate or equivalent with training in equipment maintenance and management procedures at the Field/Sustainment Level of maintenance. Apprenticeship in Light/Heavy Automobile Repair, Automotive Mechanic or similar preferred. MRAP University certification preferred. MOS 91B/H/S military training or equivalent preferred. A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC). Must be able to obtain and maintain a host country driver's license. Experience: Approximately two (2) years’ experience as an electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance mechanic. Approximately three (3) years of hands on experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with one year at field/sustainment maintenance level of maintenance. Experience maintaining MRAP family of tactical wheeled vehicles. Skills: Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Familiar with the use of military electronic or paper version technical manuals. Ability to read, analyzes, understand and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, reports technical publications and documents. The ability to troubleshoot, determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Must have excellent communications skills, both written and oral, in English. Ability to work in a diverse workforce. Requires a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation, and teamwork. Must exercise discretion and good sound judgment. Knowledgeable of the Army Maintenance Management Principles and Standards. Knowledgeable of physical security of government issued equipment. Possesses excellent interpersonal skills; must be customer-oriented and diverse. Ability to handle confidential company and employee information with complete discretion. Ability to work effectively with employees and management of all levels to inclement-national staff, superiors, and ranking military officers and on-commissioned officers. Must have good understanding in the use of MS Office other related applications. Working Conditions: Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. Physical Requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
