MRI Team Lead

Description:Follows established procedures and guidelines while performing a wide variety of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations. Produces high quality diagnostic images. Helps maintain an orderly and clean work environment and, on occasion, performs routine clerical tasks.

Responsible for oversight of day-to-day operation of MRI. Organizes and directs activities within the work unit, as well as assigning and monitoring work of others. Follows established procedures and guidelines in the performance of examinations. Effective communicator: able to assess situations, exercise discretion and judgment, and act in the best interest of the patient. May spend a substantial portion of time performing the same duties as other staff in the department.

Qualifications:
Education
Required\tCompletion of American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) approved Radiologic Technology Program, or an MRI-specific curriculum.
Preferred\tBachelor's Degree with MRI Safety Officer Certification (MRSO)
Credentials/Licensure
Required\tCurrently registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
MRI certification. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Certification or re-certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three months of hire.
Related Experience
Required\tThree or more years' experience as a staff technologist in specific imaging modality.
Preferred\tThree to five years of supervisory experience in a Radiology imaging modality.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required\tEffective written and verbal communication and customer service skills. Capable of effectively communicating with people of different ages, backgrounds, and educational levels. Effective problem solving skills. Ability to work in a high volume department while remaining organized and composed.
Preferred\tAbility to interpret and monitor EKG tracings.
Computer Competency
Familiarity with standard desktop and windows based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.
Physical/Mental
Minimum\tFrequent reaching, standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, and kneeling. Ability to lift up to a maximum of 35lbs. and perform push/pull tasks that require a maximum force of 35 lbs. Ability to physically operate safe patient movement equipment in compliance with the Safe Patient Movement Policy. Ability to perform detailed tasks and work with interruptions and changing priorities. Ability to hear speech, distinguish sounds, speak loudly and softly, and utilize near/far vision, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, depth perception, and color distinction. Ability to distinguish hot and cold temperatures and
smell odors.

Position Details:
Primarily days with some nights, weekend and holiday call and coverage. QUALIFICATIONS
Education

Performs a wide variety of examinations in accordance with department, State, Federal, and accreditation governing bodies, which results in the production of high quality diagnostic MRI scans.Properly positions patients.Uses MRI equipment in a safe and proper manner.Administers specific contrast and barium solutions as directed by the Radiologist or other physician, in accordance with established guidelines.Assists Radiologist in performing routine and/or special procedures.Assesses patient’s condition to determine appropriate procedure and technique to utilize in order to perform examination.Provides instruction to x-ray students.Explains exam and procedures and acquires patient history, assuring that patient and/or family members understand scope of exam. Monitors safety and comfort of patient through the exam.Assures quality patient care by promoting effective communication and teamwork through the organization.Effectively uses available resources to provide a more complete and personally satisfying experience for all customers.Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the needs of the age group served. Team Lead Duties:Coordinates daily operations of unit. Routinely performs day-to-day staff level duties.Participates in ongoing quality monitoring, data collection, analysis, action plans, and implementation.Provides input into the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental and division goals.Works with Clinical Engineering to ensure that all equipment and services are in compliance with department, state, federal, and accreditation governing bodies.Responsible for continual learning and individual role development. Assists with creating and implementing action plans when necessary. Acts as a resource, guide, and support to peers and support staff.Provides input for interviewing and hiring of new staff. Provides input for evaluation process and the development of specific individual performance evaluations as appropriate.Provides information that assists in the development of the budget.Complies with departmental activities such as monitoring supplies, documenting charges/services, etc. Oversees the scheduling and assigns work to personnel within established department guidelines. Is accountable for his/her own time management and the time management of all departmental staff.Serves as a consultant/resource regarding practice, professional, departmental, and Hospital issues to members of the Leadership Team, peers, physicians, staff, students, and other members of the health care team within and outside department/Hospital.Plans and develops modality orientation and training programs, and is directly involved in the assessment process.Helps develop new strategies for revenue opportunities in the modality, including improving productivity and reduction of expenses.In collaboration with Radiology management, assesses radiology staff educational needs and requirements.Maintain a very high level of knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.Establishes and maintains all protocols with Radiologist and manager input.Identifies policies and procedures needed for site/service and participate in writing, reviewing and revising site/service policies and procedures with manager.Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety-related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.Demonstrates advanced knowledge of MRI safety concepts.In collaboration with the MRI Physicist and MRI Medical Director, oversees ACR accreditation and compliance, as well as other regulatory entities, including initiating, coordinating and producing data for ACR renewal.Attends section meetings.Coordinates the designs, writing, editing, assembly and distribution of user protocol manuals, reference and orientation material.Assists in collaboration for the research trial, evaluation of equipment, supplies, and resources utilized in area of accountability. Works closely with technology manager and vendor representatives on all new products.Evaluates images and data for technical quality, manipulate display parameters, and provides hard copy record of procedures when appropriate, assuring proper identification is event.Documents and provides feedback to manager on the quality of work for individual technologists. Provides feedback to technologists on an individual basis to improve the quality of imaging skills and quality on the PACS system.Performs other related duties as assigned.
