Summary:

The MRI Technologist RT(MR) performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by a Radiologist or licensed practitioner. The technologist provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Exercises professional judgement in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Under the direction of the Medical Director, performs those duties directly involved with providing Magnetic Resonance Imaging services. Under the direction of the Radiologists, administers contrast media according to protocol.

Experience/Education Requirements:

Associates degree in radiologic sciences or successful completion of accredited allied health program or met eligibility requirements for ARRT(R)MR or AMRIT RT(MR).Experienced in medical imaging technology demonstrating competency to successfully complete Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures and maintain additional education in radiographic disciplines.Good verbal and written Communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groupsAbility to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Licensure/Certification:

ARRT RT(R)(MR) or AMRIT RT(MR) required.CPR required.

 

Responsibilities:

Performs MRI procedures in accordance with established policies and protocols.Performs point of care testing as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Starting, maintaining and/or removing intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Performing magnetic resonance and molecular imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.Prioritizes orders to reduce patient wait times and improve patient satisfaction.Competently selects and operates MRI equipment and/or associated accessories.Determines that services are performed in a safe environment, minimizing potential hazards.Monitors the patient for reactions to medications.Performs procedural timeout.Positions patient for anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.Supports and implements the safe use of new technologies and procedures.Works aseptically in the appropriate environment while preparing, compounding and dispensing sterile and nonsterile medication.Ensures that anyone who is pregnant is not in the magnetic resonance scanner bore or scan room during actual data acquisition or scanning, unless medically necessary.Identifies appropriate cardiac or respiratory triggers.Monitors the patient's specific absorption rate and other factors related to patient heating.Positions imaging coil.Provides hearing protection to patient and others.Uses appropriate positioning and/or insulation materials to protect the patient from excessive heating and burns.Evaluates images for optimal demonstration of anatomy of interestEvaluates the patient, equipment and procedure to identify variances that might affect the expected outcome.Adjusts imaging parameters, patient procedure or additional factors to improve the outcome.Notifies the appropriate health care provider when immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings and patient condition.Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.Selects the appropriate protocol and optimizing technical factors while maximizing patient safety.Cleans and stocks rooms, blanket warmers, maintains room supply stock.Administers contrast media and other medications only when a licensed practitioner is immediately available to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment of adverse events.Administers medications enterally, parenterally, through new or existing vascular or through other routs as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Administers medications with an infusion pump or power injector as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Identifying, calculating, compounding, preparing and/or administering medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Assisting the licensed practitioner or radiologist assistant with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.Assesses and maintains the integrity of medical supplies and medications, properly disposing when indicated.Available on an 'on call' basis for emergency procedures and administrative direction when necessary.Assesses any potential patient limitations for the procedure.Assesses patient lab values, medication list and risk for allergic reactions prior to procedure and administration of medication.Maintains restricted access to controlled areas.Provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and at a level the patient and their care providers can understand; addresses question and concerns regarding the procedure.Provides pre-, peri- and post-procedure education.Attends monthly department meetingsCompetent in peripheral venipuncture observing proper technique starting, maintaining and/or removing intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.Uses universal precautions, PPE, and hand washing as required.Performs other duties and projects, as assigned.
