Job Summary:
The MSW Intern’s responsibilities primarily include completing intake assessments and treatment plans, carrying a caseload at least 10 clients for individual therapy and helping other mental health professionals facilitate at least one clinical group. The mental health professional intern is further responsible with consistently communicating with collaterals and helping with referrals, including discharge planning.
Salary: This internship is unpaid, if applicable may be eligible for academic credit through your school.
Shift Hours: This position is 2-3 days and 20 hours per week.
Location Address: 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10027. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation.
Workplace Flexibility: On-site - for roles that are 100% in-office/in-person.
What You Will Be Doing.
Conduct screening and assessment in accordance with the use of validated screening tools to screen and assess for mental illness, trauma, substance use, and risk and needs associated with criminal risk.
Develop recovery-oriented treatment plans and reviews in collaboration with the service recipient, collaterals, and consented stakeholders such as significant others, criminal justice personnel, primary care provider, care manager and Health Home.
Coordinate care with clinic psychiatrists and onsite provider offering medical care to recipients enrolled in clinic treatment.
Use evidence-based sequential screening for risk of violence and closely monitor risk.
Utilize evidence-based risk management protocols and clinical processes to appropriately manage and intervene to effectively serve high risk clients.
Document all treatment services (assessment and progress notes) using collaborative/concurrent documentation.
Maintain designated caseload and required weekly levels of service productivity.
Utilize evidence-based approaches to treatment consistent with responding to serious mental illness; CASES’ organizational culture; health/mental health integration, rehabilitation and recovery, and a compassionate understanding of the effects of incarceration and the challenges this brings to engagement.
Use cognitive behavioral approaches to treatment that will support behavioral changes to reduce risks associated with criminal justice involvement—re-arrest and re-incarceration.
Deliver effective treatment responses to individuals with co-occurring serious mental illness and substance use disorders and complete the Focus on Integrated online training modules and receive the Integrated Mental Health/Addictions Treatment Training Certificate (IMHATT).
Co-facilitate group psychotherapy services to youth, adults, and families.
Provide culturally competent services that are individualized to client needs and reflect the integration of race, ethnicity, culture, primary language, immigration status, developmental status, criminal justice status, sexuality, age, and gender.
Attend and actively participate in supervision and weekly staff meetings.
What We Are Looking For:
Must be enrolled in a masters’ level social work program.Commitment to social justice and serving justice involved populations.Preferred Skills:
Fluency in Spanish.
