The role and the team: The eBay Electronics team is dedicated to delivering a comprehensive and satisfying shopping experience by offering a wide selection of products, competitive prices, and reliable customer service. The eBay Electronics category is a vibrant and diverse segment of the e-commerce platform, dedicated to providing a wide range of electronic products to consumers. This category encompasses everything from the latest gadgets and cutting-edge technology to essential home and office electronics.
We are looking for a dynamic, collaborative, and curious Staff Engineer to help us build out new experiences, improve existing products, and develop distributed systems powering the world's largest e-commerce websites at a scale few companies can match. In this role, you will design, develop and implement core software systems or applications. Think globally and help eBay be on the top tier with new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools. You will build robust and scalable software, help improve our code services and system architecture, participate in brainstorming sessions and supply ideas to our technology, algorithms and products, and work with the product and design teams to understand end-user requirements, formulate use cases, and deliver results.
What you will do:Build highly available, scalable user facing applications and RESTful or GraphQL APis
Excellent knowledge in practicing object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD), Solid Principles, design patterns, and software engineering methodologies
Hands-on experience building web technologies and services (e.g. Java/NodeJS/C++, etc.) along with browser technologies (Marko, React, Javascript, HTML, etc.)
Operate within our internal open source community where we share a variety of projects and codebases.
Work with other engineering specialists, Architecture, Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet business needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and consistency to development principles and product goals.
Mentoring junior team members and ensuring they adhere to determined software quality standards
Develop technical & domain expertise and apply to solving product challenges.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and rollout system changes with implications for multi-functional teams.
What you will bring:BS/BA in Computer Science or related field 10 plus years work experience or MS with 8 plus experience
Experience on software design and development experience, solid foundation in computer science with strong proficiencies in system architecture, distributed systems, data structures, algorithms, OOPs, OOA/D and Functional programming
Experience with Node JS, Javascript, Java, Scala, Oracle/NOSQL DBs
Experience building web and RESTful applications
Experience working with frameworks such as Spring MVC
Knowledge of core CS concepts such as common data structures and algorithms
Strong applied experience. You've built, broken, and rebuilt software applications.
Creative thinker who knows how to create real-world products.
Code samples from private GitHub repos, side projects, and open source project contributions is a plus
Excellent decision-making, communication, collaboration, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills.
