The Multi-Modality Radiology Technologist performs imaging procedures in a minimum of 2 or 3 modalities shown below. This position provides basic patient care, maintains equipment, transports patients, and prepares and maintains documentation.

 

Radiology Technologist Multimodality 1 provides imaging in any 2 modalities of the following: Diagnostic/Xray, CT, Mammography.

 

Radiology Technologist Multimodality 2 provides imaging in any 3 of the following: Diagnostic/Xray, Mammography, CT; or MRI with 1 or 2 of Diagnostic/Xrray, CT and/or Mammography.

 

This position's work location is on-site only.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Obtains patient history.

* Educates patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.

* Positions patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure.

* Performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.

* Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality, such as density, contrast, definition and distortion.

* Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.

* Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with established policies.

* Maintains infection prevention standards.

* Explains standard procedures and answers patient questions.

* Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects and maintains equipment.

* Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.

* Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required.

* Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.

 

Modality Specific
CT:

* Operate head or body scanners to create a computer generated cross-sectional image of a patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues.

* Produces computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas.

Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.

* May perform obstetric and gynecological scans, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, and radiation therapy localization.

Mammography:

* Prepares patient and equipment for mammography procedure.

* Positions patient throughout the procedures, adjusting immobilization devices for proper compression.

* Performs radiologic mammography exams, including screenings and diagnostic studies, and analysis.

* May participate in the performance of advanced mammography procedures such as stereostatic biopsies, clip placements, drainages.

 

MRI:

* Operates a magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images used for diagnosis and treatment of patient pathologies.

* Uses knowledge of imaging techniques and cross-sectional anatomy to create high quality scans.

* Modifies technical settings and adjusts scanning parameters to enhance images and minimize unnecessary exposure.

* Start IVs and/or catheters effectively and consistently for the MRI process.

* Prepare, administer and monitor IV contrast and/or patient sedation and patient status.

* Ensure completion of screenings for pacemakers and other patient status affecting qualification for MRI.


Diagnostic/Xray:

* Performs radiographic procedures using both stationary and mobile radiographic equipment.

* Responsible for appropriate set up of the xray room and manipulation of equipment, and proper placement of patient for procedure.

* Ensure proper image capture of skeletal structure request for diagnosis and treatment purposes.

* Process and develops exposed xray film and creates xray CD copies for review and interpretation.

 

Ultrasound:

* Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological and anatomic data.

* Operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes.

* Utilizes transabdominal technology to monitor patient or fetus health, detect or monitor tumors/cysts and diagnose cardiovascular conditions.

* May assist with vascular ultrasound procedures and ultrasound guided biopsies and other guided procedures.

 

Nuclear Medicine:

* Performs nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrating competence in performing invasive/interventional procedures.

* Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in both diagnostic studies and therapeutic treatments.

* Operates imaging equipment and technology to track and record radiation with the patient's body, and prepares image reports.

* Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measures.

* Follows radiation safety guidelines and documents radiopharmaceutical safe receipt, administration, storage, usage and disposal for regulatory compliance.

 

Quality
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

* Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.

* Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.

 

Education

Compliance/Safety
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

Qualifications

Education
Associates of Applied Science or other Related Fields- Required


Ultrasonographer: Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program
(or)
Associates of Applied Science degree and graduation from an Ultrasound certificate program


Certification & Licensures
Diagnostic/Xray:
MRTBE, ARRT- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

CT:

MRTBE CT-Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

 

Mammography:

MRTBE Mammography - Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

 

MRI Technologist:

ARRT MRI (or) ARMRIT-Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

 

Ultrasonography:

ARDMS within 6 months of hire- required; RVT-Preferred
BLS (American Heart Assoc.) - Required

 

NAHMG Clinic-Based Staff (Does not apply to Imaging Clinic):
Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire

Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire

 

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.


Experience
Minimum 1 year experience as imaging technologist - Required (3 years experience - Preferred)


Experience in hospital Trauma 1 and Trauma 2 environment - Preferred


CT/Mammography:
One year experience in Diagnostic Radiology and/or CT, Mammography - Preferred

 

MRI -
Two years experience as ARRT MRI (or) ARMRIT - Preferred
