Summary :At the direction of a radiologist and/or other providers, prepares patients, performs imaging procedures and operates imaging equipment. Performs diagnostic studies according to specific guidelines and prescribed protocols while utilizing appropriate radiation protection measures.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Must have one years experience in 2 or more of the following modalities and meets the requirements of advanced certification: MRI, CT, Diagnostic X-ray, or Mammography.

DIAGNOSTIC X-RAY:

Performs radiologic/fluoroscopic procedures accurately and efficiently with the least amount of discomfort to the patient

CT

Performs routine and ‘special' CT examinations according to manufacturer, medical/department standards and protocols, and meeting quality requirements.

Demonstrates competence in venipuncture technique/ blood draws/IV starts/port access/de-access (where applicable) according to medical and dept. standards.

Knowledgeable regarding types and uses of contrast, as well as recognizing and responding to contrast reactions, side effects and extravasations including proper documentation.

Demonstrates competence in use of auto-injector, including loading, monitoring and recognizing/addressing function issues.

MAMMOGRAPHY: Performs Breast Imaging related exams according to medical / department standards and department protocol.  Operates mammography department equipment according to protocols as defined by manufacturer, hospital/clinic, or other recognized authority. Address patient questions and concerns regarding mammography and breast procedures. Demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of Epic, patients. Radiant Information Systems, and mammography reporting systems. Assist when needed with routine quality control. MRI : Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographic images of specific body parts.

Position patients for MR scans using immobilization and protective equipment to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance.

Start I.V.’s, administer contrast media as directed and per protocol. Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and label appropriately.

Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions. Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.

Additional Responsibilities:

Prepares patient for exam by providing a clear explanation of the procedure and answering the patients’ questions. Obtains personal medical history and documents this into RIS. Provide appropriate instructions and positioning to obtain maximum image quality. Produces high quality images and ensures that all images are appropriately labeled / identified. Recognizes normal anatomy and physiology, normal variations, and pathology and adjusts imaging process as needed to demonstrate all. Works in partnership with other staff to ensure appropriate scheduling and throughput of exams. Assists in transporting of patients, as needed. Prepares the exam room prior to the next patient's arrival, in a manner that promotes an increase in department efficiency.

Additional duties as assigned for Community Hospitals are as follows:

Collect laboratory samples and perform lab testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and established policies and procedures, demonstrate ability to perform laboratory Quality Controls and Assessments, and routine daily, weekly, monthly and periodic maintenance and function according to Laboratory Policy and Procedure. Staff will support a best-in-class patient experience by utilizing downtime as productively as possible, to include aiding in the Emergency Department and Inpatient Unit. Tasks include the following:

EKGsObtaining vital signsVenous access w/ blood collectionMeasuring and fitting of ambulation aidsSplintingBladder scanning  Restraint applicationPatient safety assistant (sitting with suicidal patients) any other duties that can create efficiencies within the workflow and/or as assigned by manager.

QUALIFICATION

One year of current clinical experience in each modality is preferred. Licensure description: ARRT registered and current State of Wisconsin license as a Radiographer is required. Registered by the ARRT in CT, Mammography or MRI within 18 months of hire/transfer is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
