Xcel Energy is looking to hire 1 or more MSO-CROB 1st Yr Apprentice (Multi-Skill Operators) positions. The MSO positions is made up of an Operations apprentice program and a Maintenance apprentice program.
Summary
Job duties in the Operations side of the MSO training will include, but are not limited to, the safe operation of plant equipment, inspection of equipment, cleaning of equipment, unit startup, unit shutdown, running water tests, and other duties as required. Job duties in the Maintenance side of the MSO training will include, but not limited to, troubleshoot, construct, and maintain plant equipment (turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, cooling towers, etc.).
Employee will assist with the execution of safety procedures including lock out tag out and confined space entry.
The employee will be required to actively participate in hands-on training, required classroom training and computer interactive training programs, as directed by management. The employee will also be required to successfully complete 4-year apprentice program and qualify for MSO Control Room Operator B Journeyman. The employee will then enter into the maintenance portion of the training program. They will be required to successfully complete a 3-year maintenance apprentice program and qualify for Maintenance Apprentice 4th Year. Travel to other locations may be required.
Environmental Exposure: Employee will work in and around energized/rotating equipment, confined spaces, vibrating equipment, heights, noise levels requiring ear protection, presence of chemical fumes, lead and dust requiring use of a respirator and work in a wide range of ambient temperatures, both hot and cold. The employee will work from ladders and scaffolding, in elevated positions, and may be required to handle asbestos, lead and other hazardous materials. Employee must be able to walk, climb stairs and ladders throughout the plant. Work is often on gravel, concrete, and uneven surfaces.
Required
High school diploma or GED
Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Plant Operator Selection Systems (POSS) test
Must work rotating shifts
Must respond to overtime and call outs
Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE)
Able to lift 50 pounds
Valid driver's license
Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
Must take Base line Audiogram
Knowledge of equipment operation such as pumps and motor controls and operation and power plant/industrial operations experience desired
Successfully pass the Xcel Energy screening requirements, which include a drug test, security clearance and other exams that are required by federal regulations, such as OSHA and DOT, will be performed as required
LOCATION:
If selected, the employee must agree to reside within 50 miles of Tolk Station.

Bargaining
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $30.03 per hour
