Municipal Bond Trader

The Municipal Bond Trader is responsible for the execution of taxable and tax-exempt municipal bond orders on behalf of Manulife Investment Management (MIM), the global wealth and asset management segment of Manulife Financial Corporation. They will work closely with the Municipal Strategies Team while also providing trading solutions to MIM as a centralized trader.  The trader will be able to idenfity relative value opportunities within the municipal bond market across both retail and institutional markets.  In addition, the trader will be part of the Investment Grade trading team, which focuses on IG rated corporate debt, Municipal debt, Preferred securities, and Money Markets, within the centralized fixed income trading desk at Manulife Investment Management.

Position Responsibilities:

Execute primary and secondary trades considering speed, profitability, and volume determined in partnership with relevant Portfolio Manager. 

Responsible for trading municipal bonds across the credit spectrum, AAA through NR.

Accountable for achieving best price execution relative to above considerations.

Provide market color/relevant news and their effect on trading levels to Investment Teams.

Work closely with the Municipal Strategies Team to identify alpha generating opportunities.

Build, maintain and leverage relationships with broker dealers.

Communicate and manage primary calendar orders on behalf of MIM. 

Explore electronic trading capabilities to maximize efficiency.

Willingness to assist with backup trading responsibilities across other IG Team sectors.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required. CFA and/or MBA desired.

Minimum of three years of direct experience in trading fixed income securities.

Fundamental understanding of municipal markets, fixed income securities and SMA protocols.

Experience with order management systems, electronic trading platforms, general market practices and trading conventions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with Brokers, Portfolio Managers, Research Analysts, and team members.

Strong negotiation and analytical skills.

Ability to recognize and prioritize competing demands to satisfy business need.

Ability to make strong and fast decisions under, sometimes in response to news and change.

Personal desire and ability to achieve best price.

Demonstrated team player mentality and strong work ethic.

Salary range is expected to be between

$111,000.00 USD - $175,000.00 USD
