If so, the Bureau of Historic Sites and Museums (BHSM) of the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) is looking for a museum director to manage Cornwall Iron Furnace in Lebanon County -- one of PHMC's premier historic sites. DESCRIPTION OF WORK As the Site Administrator for Cornwall Iron Furnace, you will play a crucial role in the preservation and interpretation of the best preserved cold-blast charcoal-fired iron furnace in the western hemisphere. Welcoming thousands annually from across the U.S. and the world, Cornwall Iron Furnace shares the history of iron manufacturing and the people who worked and owned the furnace through experiential tours as well as dynamic exhibits, educational programs and special events. In this role, you will manage the operation and development of Cornwall Iron Furnace. The administrator plans, directs, monitors and supervises all facets of day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include maintenance and preservation of buildings, systems and grounds, personnel management, financial management, security, collections care and management, exhibits, interpretation, educational programming, various types of planning, recruitment and training of volunteers, fundraising, identifying and developing community partners, marketing, development of the Associate group, implementation of Commonwealth and PHMC policies and procedures, and promotion of the site locally, regionally and nationally. As the Site Administrator, you will also provide effective liaison with the Cornwall Iron Furnace Associates (the museum’s official support group), the local community, and other organizations, institutions, and individuals. The site administrator assists the Associates with annual planning, submission of annual agreements, and timely reporting to the Bureau office, providing appropriate non-profit management expertise and advice to the associate group to ensure compliance with Commonwealth agreements and professional museum ethical standards. The site administrator also plans, approves, directs, and implements grant writing and fundraising development activities on behalf of the historic site in coordination with the Cornwall Iron Furnace Associates. This is a professional museum administrator position requiring subject matter expertise related to the historic site, its era of history and the museum profession in general.
