We are looking for a Mutational Surveillance Scientist to join our Diagnostics Assay Development, R&D group responsible for driving our Mutational Surveillance Program tp monitor viral RNA/DNA evolution, and evaluate risks to the effectiveness of Hologic's molecular diagnostics assays over time.
This is a fully onsite role based in San Diego, CA.
Main duties and responsibilities
Use best practices to execute test methods and procedures; write and release reports in active collaboration with Hologic’s internal customers Handle time-sensitive custom analysis requests from Regulatory, Commercial, Scientific Affairs or Quality, and interpret all results Perform routine and special analyses of nucleic acid target sequences available in public databases and maintain in-house mutational surveillance sequences Utilize custom software for molecular diagnostic assay mutation surveillance Contribute to software improvements through planning, testing and test method integration Design synthetic targets (IVTs) and manage or conduct laboratory testing to support in-silico predictionsRequired Qualifications:
M.S. or Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or related discipline 3 to 5 years post-graduate experience in the biomedical field Ability to work efficiently in situations involving ambiguity, adjust to change and innovate new methods Strong verbal communication skills Ability to generate concise reports about complex topics Good theoretical understanding of nucleic acid chemistry and evolution Experience with oligo design for nucleic acid detection chemistry (e.g. PCR) Competency to perform and/or supervise wet lab testing Familiarity with common sequence management and analysis tools and with biological sequence databases such as NCBI and GISAID Ability to script in a common programming language such as Python or R or willingness to rapidly acquire this skillset Candidates with proven project leadership are preferredThe annualized base salary range for this role is $112,000 to $175,100 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs, and market demand.
