Overview **This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP** Under general supervision, the MWR Technician - Referee & Scorekeeper has a good understanding of sports scoring. Familiar with the rules of the sport they are working. Ability to multi task; scoring and/ or run the clock as needed. Have attention to details; time, play, score, etc. Ability to focus; accurately record a game's score. Each time a team scores one or more points, the scorekeeper must post the updated score on the scoreboard. If a referee disqualifies a goal or imposes a point penalty, the scorekeeper/ timekeeper must adjust the team scores in accordance with the official's decision. A scorekeeper might also be responsible for keeping time by starting and stopping the clock according to the rules of the game. Scorekeepers maintain the official team rosters of eligible players and substitutes. Making announcements during the game is often the responsibility of scorekeepers as well as track the number of penalties or fouls each player receives and alert an official when a player receives his last permissible foul or penalty. Before a game begins, a score/ timekeeper helps to prepare the facility for the game. They clean and set up equipment, including the scoreboard, and tests the equipment to make sure it works properly. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High school diploma or equivalent Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and host nation Driver’s License, is required. Experience: Two years of recreational activities experience. Two years of Customer service knowledge and experience. Minimum of two years technical experience involving the coordination of organized team sports, recreation club activities, and social event scheduling Must be able to read/write and speak English. Strong Customer Service Skills and Programming Execution Knowledge of the principles, rules, materials, and equipment requirements of recreational activities in assigned area. Knowledge of tournament brackets, tournament operations, various sports skills and rules. Preferred: CPR/AED and First Aid certified by a nationally/internationally accredited organization is preferred MWR armed forces experience is preferred Skills: Ability to carry out recreational activities; maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports. Ability to understand recreational programs; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; give instructions in assigned recreation activities. Ability to maintain discipline and enforce safety policies and procedures. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other staff and the general public. Capable of carrying supplies weighing 10 to 50 pounds to various field and playing locations. Requires ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Working Conditions: Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. Physical Requirements: Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
