Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of Research and Development (R&D) employees and support them in achieving the agreed R&D targets. Each day, you will coach and develop the team. You will also showcase your expertise by helping in managing technologies, platforms, and Intellectual Property.The work model for the role is hybrid in Raleigh, NCRelocation assistance available.• Manages R&D team distributed over multiple locations in North America. Ensures that appropriate competencies are developed within the team or even by recruiting talents to support development of future products and systems.• Work closely with Product Managers and partners with service business units to evaluate market needs and propose technical solutions in order to develop business in a critical growth region. • With other ABB divisions in North America he/she ensures collaboration, plans technology transfers and integration of the respective product platforms.• Supports the creation of technology and product roadmaps in collaboration with Division Tech manager and Product Management for Service ANSI portfolio, tracks execution and reports status. Proactively shares inputs on technology and portfolio evolution.• Prepare Plans and ensures an optimal project portfolio for the team. Plans resources and competences for R&D projects. Oversees efficient, timely and quality project execution using the most appropriate internal and external resources and partners (e.g. universities, Corporate Research Centers (CRCs).

Qualifications for the role

Bachelor’s degree and 10 + years in a product design related role, Minimum of 5 years in Electromechanical R&D role or master’s degree in engineering discipline and 5 years of hands-on design experience. Sound leadership skills with minimum 3 years of experience in leading and growing people. Exceptional analytical and communication skills – effective with non-native English speakers. Project planning and reporting. Interested in leading and developing a team and finding motivation from new technology challenges. Experience in Electrical products like Medium Voltage Circuit Breakers, Low Voltage and Medium Voltage ANSI / IEC Switchboard / Switchgear / MCC design. Demonstrated Expertise in Creo and Windchill usage.Preferred Qualifications: ANSI standards/UL knowledge. Type Testing knowledge at independent labs. Experienced user of Agile development process and tools. Excellent oral, writing, and documentation skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Technical leadership ability. Ability and drive to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities. Knowledge of circuit breaker design, contactors, instrument transformer, load break switch and operation principles of protection in electrical power systems are desirable. Availability to travel is required, estimate up to 20% travel. Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
