National Port Operations Manager

SUMMARY
Leads all finished vehicle operations and related performance for all Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) processing centers. Maintains responsibility for managing five (5), ultimately six (6), site managers and ensuring throughput and efficiencies within SOA Port Operations. Proactively monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure minimal disruption to vessel discharges, vehicle processing, and ultimately vehicle transportation. Fosters and maintains relationships with critical business partners that support all facets of port operations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Conducts collaborative management with Port Managers at all Subaru of America (SOA) and alliance vehicle processing facilities. In conjunction with Port Operations Team, will focus on efficient operations, opportunities for continuous improvement, and long-term planning.
+ Establishes, implements, and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) regarding port operations. Works with internal and external teams to proactively address and resolve any issues.
+ Serves as a key contributor to defining, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting standardized procedures for portside handling and planning of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid vehicles. Functions as the subject matter expert for EV and hybrid vehicle processing.
+ Along with Director – Port Operations & Logistics, is directly responsible for contract negotiations and facility upgrades at all SOA port and alliance locations; contract negotiations would include rate proposals, statement of work, liability responsibilities, quality expectations, and performance indicators.
+ Proactively escalates SOA Port Operations concerns to port processor leadership when addressing performance, personnel, quality, and contractual issues. Establishes reoccurring meetings with processor leadership to cover issues, follow-up on planned resolutions, and discuss SOA’s future plans.
+ Works with Port Managers to ensure that published vehicle schedules are adhered to, minimizing late arrivals to retailers. Proactively makes recommendations to individual ports on operational efficiencies to stay on schedule.
+ Collaborates with SOA Vehicle Planning, Logistics, and Subaru Corporation (SBR) liaisons on vessel arrival information to ensure timely and accurate information. Proposes vessel changes to increase efficiency and reduce port dwell, while communicating directly with third-party stakeholders.
+ Actively participates during allocation planning meetings, representing SOA Port Operations. Offers operational insight related to current processing volumes and vehicle inventories, accessory limitations, port challenges, and operational plans to meet SOA wholesale goals.
+ Monitors industry trends and provides insight to SOA leadership regarding labor trends, union activity, electrification, and global vessel capacities, identifying potential opportunities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Works closely with SOA Advanced Quality Assurance (AQA) Team on time study standardization, quality trends, pre-delivery inspection (PDI) processes, and campaign procedures.
+ Works with SOA Accessory Planning to ensure adequate availability of accessories scheduled for install at port locations. Establishes workable plans to address shortages.
+ Works closely with Port Managers with support of daily operations. Mentors team members on yearly goals and career development.
+ Maintains relationships with vessel lines, stevedores, rail, port authorities, and truck transportation providers. Provides to services providers SOA’s plans for volumes and future product.
+ Reviews proposed logistics network changes, such as routing, shipping modes, production volumes, or marine carriers and advises on process and flow optimization.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
+ Working knowledge of finished automotive logistics, and ideally Subaru of America's (SOA’s) logistics network.
+ Fundamental knowledge of customs clearance processes.
+ Deep understanding of the principles behind moving vehicles by truck, rail, and sea.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to travel routinely to SOA ports and industry functions.
+ Strong negotiation skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: BA/BS with 10-12 years of relevant experience
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that is acceptable or probationary under the SOA Driving Record Evaluation Criteria Policy. Must be approved as an "Authorized Driver" by Risk Mgmt. to operate company vehicle prior to vehicle operation.
Compensation: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $114800 - $164000 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
