Natural Resources Risk Engineer

The Role

The successful candidate will be involved in the management of accounts for multi-national organisations primarily in downstream oil refineries, gas processing, LNG and petrochemicals industry sectors but will be supplemented with survey work in other industries. Excellent knowledge of oil refinery / petrochemical processes / power generation and logistics, operations, asset integrity activities (maintenance & inspection), and process safety management; plus international codes & standards is highly desirable.

Develop and lead risk engineering strategies. Develop risk engineering programmes for insured clients taking into consideration the needs of all stakeholders. Arrange individual risk engineering surveys through discussions with account teams insureds and market engineers. Prepare marketing risk assessment reports to assist in the placement of client insurance programmes. Calculate loss expectancies within company guidelines across a range of industries. Ensure that all reports and other deliverables are prepared and ready in a timely manner. Provide technical support to clients and the broking team across a range of issues relating to good industry practices. Maintain all risk management team tracking tools such as schedules and planning spread sheets. Other aspects of work activities include: Ensuring the risk management team fully understand the scope of work required. Clear understanding of the funding that supports engineering activities on individual accounts. Develop risk improvement recommendations that are clear, appropriate and are fairly balanced between the interests of insureds and insurers. Ensuring that proposed engineering activities do not exceed the available fee amount unless agreed by Account Executive and engineering manager.

The Requirements

10+ years of experience working within the Oil, Gas, Petrochemicals or power generation industry. This experience can be in a variety of roles including operations, technical, engineering, maintenance or HSE.Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical, Petroleum, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.Additional qualifications in risk management or relevant accreditations would be considered favourably.Comfortable travelling extensively (e.g. approx. 90 days per year) on an international basis.Self-starter, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to individuals at all levels – from site technicians up to company CEOs.Proven ability to write detailed reports of a varied technical nature.Member of engineering associations (i.e. IChemE, IMechE, etc.) is preferable.Experience of working with international engineering standards and codes such API, ASME, IEEE, NFPA, ANSI.Working knowledge of fire protection and detection systems would be considered.Multi-lingual preferred.
