Summary This NAVIGATOR (INSTRUCTOR) position, is located at the unit level in the Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group at flying units in the ANG and is part of the CA 129 RQW. Responsibilities THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION The primary purpose of the NAVIGATOR (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2183-12, is to navigate unit equipped (UE) aircraft. Positions specifically covered by this series include (1) Instructor Navigators/CSO's for heavy multiengine transport or tanker aircraft and (2) Instructor Weapon Systems Specialists in fighter or reconnaissance aircraft. Instructor positions are covered since their career relationships are in the aircraft operation field and the positions have as their paramount requirement experience and training in air navigation. In addition to navigation responsibilities, performs administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program. May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance. Requirements Conditions of Employment CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Military technicians must be assigned to a military position in the same unit which they are employed or, in a unit that is supported by the employing activity. Military technicians must hold the military grade specified for the position. Priority Areas(s) of Consideration: Priority consideration is first given to the areas below. AREA I= Current California National Guard employees who are serving on a Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary appointment. AREA II= Current California National Guard members. AREA III= Current military members of the Air Force/Army National Guard, Air Force/Army Reserve or Air Force/Army Active Duty. (Applicants who are currently in other Air/Army branches and NOT currently a member of the California National Guard (CNG) must become a member of a compatible unit of assignment within the Air Force CNG commensurate with the military grade listed in this announcement prior to federal assignment). Military Grades: O-1 through O-4 Recruitment/Relocation Recruitment/Relocation Incentive MAY BE authorized, subject to funding and approval. PCS Relocation Costs IS NOT authorized based on determination that Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is not in the Government best interest. Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance. Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards. Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade and job assignment as required by current directives. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Required to maintain the same medical standards as USAF military navigators/Combat system Operators. May be required to perform Functional Check Flights to determine airworthiness of UE aircraft. Qualifications General Experience: Must posses experience which provided a working knowledge of the navigation systems and navigational instruments of the assigned airframe. Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT). NAVIGATOR (INSTRUCTOR), GS-2183-12: Must have at least 36 months experience, education or training that has required you to obtain information on type of mission, weather and intelligence data, and special instructions; experience preparing navigation flight plans; experience that provided a knowledge of proper readings and operations of navigational systems; Experience that shows your ability to test and inspect the operation of compasses, navigation systems, or radio and radar equipment; experience utilizing various navigational methods and aids to accomplish flying missions; Experience computing the effect of various factors during flight to establish present course and project balance of course and ability to train, evaluate and certify proficiency and competency of lower graded personnel; Have completed the necessary hours required for your current airframe; Have the certification as a qualified Navigator Instructor.
