Job Description

Navy ELMR is geographically the largest, most complex ASTRO 25 system in the world.  The “Documentation Engineer” will have responsibility for development, delivery and maintenance of all technical documentation required to meet contractual obligations under direction of the Team Lead.  While primary responsibility consists of detailed Installation Design Plans and As-Built drawings, additional artifacts include Network Drawings, Power Plans, Rack Drawings, Floor Plans, technical SOPs and others.  The Engineer will work with other Engineers and Draftsmen in pursuit of the goals set forth by the Program and will be responsible for meeting delivery deadlines and quality objectives.  Inputs needed for documentation efforts will be procured through photographs, redlined drawings, phone calls and audits which will require occasional travel, up to 50%, at times.  The Documentation Engineer will work under the guidance of the Team Lead.

Responsibilities:

This role requires a US DoD Secret level clearance.  Only those willing to possess shall apply.

Work with other Engineers and Draftsmen to complete documents in accordance with client contracts, Motorola standards and engineering principles to meet client schedules.

Carry out activities as directed by management.

Present plans, answer questions and provide regular updates to the Team Lead.

Understand, with sufficient detail, relevant technologies to accurately represent them in customer-facing technical artifacts.

Exercise detailed process identifying and managing the ripple effect of changes.

Working with the Deployment Engineers and Field Service Technicians (FSTs), identify documentation updates necessary for each project.

Perform updates to relevant existing documentation (AutoCAD LT, Visio, MS Office, G-suite).

Work with Team Lead to develop processes, standards, scope, and Quality Assurance (QA) plans that track efforts, progress and meet deadlines.

Identify issues that may interfere with quality, cost or schedule and recommend options to manage impact.

Organize and maintain documentation for ease of access and updates.

Work with the team to create and modify standard techniques, procedures, templates, reports, schedules and checklists.

Provide input for performance appraisals.

Preferred Qualifications:

Great communication skills verbal and written

Demonstrated AUTOCAD LT experience

Demonstrated VISIO experience

Experience in development of technical drawings and documentation

Technical experience in IT, LMR or Telecom

Knowledge of Motorola ASTRO Infrastructure preferred.

Knowledge of Federal drawing guidelines preferred.

Excel or G-Sheets power user experience

Experience with scripting or tools development preferred.

Salary ranges for the following areas: California, Colorado, Maryland, and Washington - $65k-$95k.


Basic Requirements

Required Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, IT, Management, or Technology

3 years of experience in Engineering, IT, Technical Project Management, or Program Management required.

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
