**Position Summary**
A Clamshell Dredge Operator is responsible for the overall safe operation of a Duty Cycle floating crane affixed to a USCG Inspected Load line Barge. The Clamshell Dredge Operator is the Designated Person in Charge of his assigned Vessel in the absence of the Captain. This individual should have expert knowledge of ALL deck activities associated with the operation of the Dredge and a working knowledge of the Engine Room and the mechanical components of the vessel.

**Primary Responsibilities and Duties**
+ Safely operate a duty cycle lattice boom crane in marine conditions.
+ Clearly signal directions or warnings to coworkers.
+ Communicate with tender and towing tugs to position the dredge and land material barges.
+ Inspect equipment daily, and keep accurate crane records and operator’s logs.
+ Communicate with the Mate and Deck Crew and direct spud movements and dredge advance.
+ Have a working knowledge of the Vessel Positioning System and communicate with the Engineers and Captain to operate the Vessel most productively.
+ Follows company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.
+ Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
+ Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.
**Qualifications**
+ 3+ years of experience working in various levels of responsibility on deck of a Load line Class Clamshell Dredge.
+ Possess a thorough knowledge of equipment used in crane/rigging operations.
+ Demonstrated ability to interpret and utilize load charts.
+ Ability to work 84-hour work week.
+ Two hundred hours of “seat” time on the specific vessel.
+ Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.
+ Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.
**Requirements**
+ Must be certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) or similar certification (CIC, NCCER).
+ NCCCO “Telescopic Boom Crane – Swing Cab” (TLL) and/or Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes (LBC).
+ Driver’s license (must be able to submit to a clean driving record).
+ TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential (preferred)
+ Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
+ Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
+ Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
+ Performs other duties as required.
