This role is part of the Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin’s design, manufacturing, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health, and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes.

 

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers you will perform inspections involving multiple nondestructive testing (NDT) methods for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of assuring part integrity, quality and life span. This position will directly impact the history of human space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Support design teams to optimize inspection of spaceflight hardware including additively manufactured components, composite structures, friction stir welds (FSW), weldments (GTAW, electron beam, and laser),  castings and thermal protection systemsSupport in-service NDT inspectionsAssist with Probability of Detection (POD) studiesDevelop inspection techniques for multiple NDT methods and assist with interpretation of inspection resultsReview and approve drawings to identify that correct NDT methods are appliedReview and approve external supplier inspection techniquesDesign reference standards for complex inspection typesDevelop and qualify NDT methods for atypical inspectionsEstablish requirements, generate bid specifications and participate in down select decisions for NDT equipment and systemsAssist with the development and maintenance of company NDT certification plans, including training of Level 1 and 2 inspectors per NAS 410 requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Five years or more experience with eddy current inspection or Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering/physical science discipline with training and experience as an NDT engineer OR Ph. D/M.S. with one at least one year of NDT experienceExperience developing NDT inspection plansExperience with 3D parametric CAD softwareNDT experience in an engineering or research environmentDemonstrated experience in innovation and problem solvingDemonstrated ability to work well within a team to solve complex problemsExcellent communication skills and ability to present results to engineering staffWillingness and desire to learn new methods and become certified to help achieve long term mission goals for the teamAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylumMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00
