Position responsible for inspecting forgings for internal defects using ultrasonic equipment.
• Set up and operate ultrasonic equipment, including reflectoscope. Also set up and operate recording equipment as a complement to sonic equipment.
• Scan assessable areas of forgings as specified by process sheets or according to established procedures.
• Evaluate and record size and location of internal defects indicated on screen to ascertain that forgings or other materials meet all government, customer, and Wyman-Gordon sonic specifications.
• Release forgings for further processing or shipment if they satisfy specification requirements. Hold for review and evaluation any that fail to meet these requirements.
• Operate cranes, work-savers, fork trucks and other materials handling equipment to obtain, set up and store forgings.
• Prepare and maintain logs, work sheets and other records listing dates, method, test results, etc.
• Perform work in other inspection areas as required.
• Perform operational testing of sonic equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Maintain equipment and work area in a neat and orderly condition.
Working Conditions:
• Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment.
• Constant exposure to moderate noise. Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
• Must be able to wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment.
• Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, and hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for twelve hours a day.
Additional Requirements:
• Prior experience as a Level 1 or Level 2 NDT inspector a plus
• Requires strong understanding of shop mathematics.
• Requires working knowledge of blueprints / schematics. • Requires working knowledge of precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, etc.
• Quality focused and strong attention to detail required.
• Must be able to perform complete sonic inspection on any forgings.
• Must be able to pass NDT Math & Aptitude assessment. • Must pass required Level I Level II Wyman Gordon and other customer certification tests.
• Must strive meet production needs in a quality environment.
• Must be able to work either second or third shift.
