NEONATAL NURSE PRACTIONER - APRN or PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
JOB REQUIREMENTS Education A Master’s degree in nursing is required. Licensed by Arkansas State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Certification by national certifying body with prescriptive privileges. Advanced training as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner required. Physician Assistant candidates who have completed a Neonatology training program will also be considered. Experience 3 years’ experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care (level 3 or higher) is desired. JOB SUMMARY Provide care for well term newborns as well as premature and sick newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), mother/baby unit, emergency room, delivery room, or specialty clinic. The NNP will work under the direction of the neonatologist and/or pediatrician while assuming responsibility for their patients, exercising judgment when necessary to assess, diagnose, and initiate medical procedures.
They will perform a number of duties, including: Monitoring specialized equipment, including incubators and ventilators. Providing education and support to patients’ families regarding neonatal, intensive and, postpartum care. Dispensing medications under collaborative agreement with a physician. Performing diagnostic tests and other procedures, such as intubation and blood draws. Ensuring proper feeding and basic care. Attending high risk deliveries to assist with admission and stabilization of newborns. Additional Information: Characteristics of our NICU: - Certified Level IIIA NICU (admit infants >26 wks GA and >750gm). 19 bed unit. Dedicated Neonatal Respiratory Therapists, PT and STs. Additional Care Responsibilities include: - Providing inpatient care to NICU patients in conjunction with the Neonatologist - Provide backup and consultative services to the Newborn/Couplet Care service - Be a leader with nursing personnel and to support education for our parents and community - Work load: 40hrs/week between day and nightshifts in-house.
