This role involves daily responsibilities for maintaining the physical equipment in the datacenters. The position will involve planning, installing, maintaining inventory, and supporting the server, network, and storage hardware within the datacenter. This person will collaborate closely with server, network, and storage teams to develop standards, integrate specifications, and support the infrastructure throughout its useful lifecycle. Therefore, in addition to a strong technical foundation, a successful candidate will possess a proven track record in cross-functional collaboration and the ability to build strong relationships. **Division and Team Summary** The HITS Enterprise Infrastructure (EI) division is responsible for securing, managing, and designing the architecture of Michigan Medicine's datacenters, networks, and communication infrastructures. This division manages all technical infrastructure related to IT at Michigan Medicine. This includes datacenters, communication services, wired and wireless networks, in-house cellular networks, and spectrum management. They also handle communication and audiovisual services, complex device management, fiber/wiring infrastructure, hosting services, directories, databases, storage, and ensure continuity of operations across the institution. The teams work collaboratively with partners throughout Michigan Medicine to maintain the security, stability, reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of the institution's technology infrastructure. The HITS Networking and Communication Architecture Services Team, together with Enterprise Infrastructure, is responsible for researching, designing, implementing, and supporting Michigan Medicine's enterprise datacenters, networking, and voice communication services. This team serves as the overall technical coordinator for architecting and managing these resources across the enterprise. In addition to this technical role, we are accountable for the life-cycle management of network and communication systems, ensuring their security, stability, reliability, and effective delivery of services to support Michigan Medicine's mission. **Mission Statement** Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society. **Responsibilities*** + Support all physical aspects of IT equipment in Michigan Medicine Datacenters, including cabinet enclosures, servers, network routers and switches, storage hardware, power distribution units, and fiber trunks, while ensuring proper airflow for cooling. + Perform replacements of field-serviceable, hot-swappable parts, such as hard drives, power supplies, fans, network optics, network modules, server blades, memory modules, and fiber cabling. + Handle RMA (Return Material Authorization) replacements for failed components covered under warranty and maintenance. + Maintain an accurate inventory of all assets in the datacenters by conducting periodic audits, comparing system records, and updating as needed. Create and maintain rack-level diagrams for other service providers. + Partner with infrastructure teams to assist with upgrades and planned maintenance, including comparing documentation to physical configurations, validating redundancy, preparing impacted system lists, and supporting change controls. + Ensure capacity planning is conducted and proactively communicate recommendations. + Research products and create budgets accordingly. + Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 operation of critical services. + Play a role in the daily physical security of the datacenters by screening access requests for vendor-supported systems, escorting vendors, and reporting violations or inconsistencies to sponsoring teams and UofM DPSS. + Serve as a liaison to facilities teams that support non-IT systems in the datacenter, conducting daily walk-throughs to identify items needing repair, and calling in work orders for repairs. + Monitor sensor panels and alarms for signs of potential failures, including electrical panels, airflow and temperature trends, and incoming alarm messages. Call in work orders or escalate for critical items. **Required Qualifications*** + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in healthcare is preferred. + 2-3 years of experience working with infrastructure, including storage service administration (SAN/NAS), server hosting (hardware/OS), and network engineering (routers/switches). **Desired Qualifications*** + Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP). + Experience with Cisco Networking, Server Administration, or Public Clouds (e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP). + Four years of hands-on experience in enterprise-level datacenter environments. + Experience with PowerIQ, DCTrack, and ServiceNow CMDB. + Experience working in healthcare with the ability to understand healthcare business workflows. + Ability to develop a solid understanding of mechanical HVAC, building automation, and other non-IT systems essential for operating datacenters + Strong understanding of datacenter power requirements, with the ability to explain the AC/DC power relationship, and how voltages, amperages, and wattages interact in datacenter environments. + Working knowledge of fiber and copper network cabling. Ability to explain different types of fiber optics and their use cases, as well as various connector types, with familiarity with TIA/EIA standards. + Understanding of cabinet enclosure cooling techniques, including methods to adjust cabinet layouts to reduce internal equipment temperatures without lowering the ambient air temperature. + Demonstrated ability to self-manage small to medium projects, prioritize tasks in healthcare environments, and adapt changes. Capability to collaborate with project managers on larger projects that require detailed coordination. + Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting complex technical issues, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. + A commitment to continuous learning and professional development to keep up with the ever-evolving datacenter technologies and industry trends. + Understanding of cybersecurity principles related to infrastructure and data protection. **Work Schedule** Punctual and regular attendance is essential. The position follows standard business hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, or a similar schedule, but may occasionally require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
