Network Automation Engineer Intern

What you'll do The Global Connectivity team is responsible for maintaining the ground networks that bring our service offerings to life. As part of this team, you will be configuring network service orchestration and integration with configuration management tools to make our network more reliable. The team you'll be working with is primarily comprised of network engineers. You will also work with security, automation, and infrastructure engineers while working to integrate multiple different tools to our network. The day-to-day You will work with the team to improve orchestration tool integration and automation. Responsibilities will include: Learning and using the API of both commercial and in-house tools Crafting scripts to connect orchestration software to our network's source of truth and network monitoring platform Developing automation to interface our orchestration platform with our internal tools Deploying and integrating new tools with existing systems Assisting with configuration audits Creating and documenting workflows Contributing to the ongoing improvement and documentation of our network processes Internship Program Details: You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility. To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable. What you'll need Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related fieldTo be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026 Scripting experience with Python and/or Java A solid understanding of IP routing and/or switching principles Internship Dates: You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars: Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 – August 15th, 2025 Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 – September 12th, 2025 What will help you on the job Experience with any of the following: Netbox InfraAPI Cisco NSO Cisco Crosswork Planner Cisco JSON Workflow Manager Ticketing systems like ServiceNow Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Knowledge of cloud networking principles (e.g. AWS) Proven experience with network automation tools or similar projects Salary range $20.91 - $56.97 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
