Responsibilities

The Director of Network Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, architecture, and operational oversight of the hospital system's enterprise-wide network infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, performance, security, and compliance across all hospital facilities, clinics, data centers, and cloud environments. As part of a mission-driven healthcare organization, this leader will play a critical role in enabling seamless connectivity and digital transformation that enhances patient care, clinician experience, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate is a transformational leader with deep expertise in enterprise networking, SD-WAN, cloud connectivity, and network security. Key Responsibilities

 

Strategic Leadership & Architecture

Develop and execute a comprehensive network strategy that aligns with business objectives, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across the enterprise.Lead network modernization Initiatives, including SD-WAN, cloud networking, Zero Trust architectures, and automation, to enhance performance and agility.Collaborate with cross-functional peers, business leaders, and external partners to align network services with broader digital transformation goals.Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends, driving innovation and improvements in network efficiency, security, and cost-effectiveness.

 

Operations & Service Delivery

Oversee 24/7 network operations, ensuring high availability and low-latency performance across hospital campuses, ambulatory centers, and remote healthcare facilities.Establish and maintain SLAs, KPls, and operational metrics that align with patient care standards and regulatory compliance.Manage network security policies, working closely with cybersecurity teams to safeguard protected health information (PHI) and mitigate risks related to cyber threats and ransomware attacks.Lead vendor negotiations and partnerships for network services, hardware, managed service providers, and telecom carriers, ensuring high availability for telemedicine, patient portals, and clinical applications.

 

Leadership & Team Development

Lead a team of network engineers, architects, and operations staff, fostering a culture of innovation, service excellence, and accountability.Develop talent through mentoring, training, and succession planning to ensure the team can support the growing digital needs of the healthcare system.Collaborate with IT leadership and healthcare executives to drive cross-functional projects, including cloud migration, network automation, and enhanced connectivity for remote care.

 

Budget & Vendor Management

Own the network services budget, ensuring cost efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of healthcare IT infrastructure.Optimize vendor contracts and service agreements to maximize ROI while ensuring the reliability of critical patient care systems.Drive automation and Al-driven network operations (AIOps) to improve operational efficiency and proactive issue resolution in life-critical environments.

 

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in enterprise networking, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in a large healthcare system or similarly complex environment.Expertise with networking technologies and solutions from:Primary vendors: Cisco, Aruba, Gigamon, Extreme Networks, and FS.Security & visibility tools (preferred familiarity): Palo Alto, Forescout, and Fortinet.Deep expertise in SD-WAN, MPLS, cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP), and automation.Strong knowledge of healthcare network security frameworks, including Zero Trust, HIPAA, HITECH, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework.Experience leading large-scale network transformations in hospital or healthcare environments, ensuring connectivity for electronic medical records (EMRs), diagnostic systems, and telehealth platforms.Proven ability to work with executives, clinicians, and IT teams to align technology investments with patient care goals.Strong vendor management, negotiation, and budgeting experience in a mission-driven healthcare setting.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field Industry strongly preferred.Certifications such as CCIE, CISSP, AWS/Azure Networking, ITIL, or HCISPP (Healthcare Information Security & Privacy Practitioner) are a plus.

Education:

High School diploma equivalency with 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 3 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management.
