Job Description:

Alation’s IT Network Engineer is pivotal in designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining the network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security. This role involves network design, troubleshooting, monitoring, and upgrading tasks. The engineer collaborates with partner teams, enforces network policies, and ensures compliance with industry standards to meet Alation’s needs.

What you’ll do:

Implementation of Zscaler Features:

Internet Access: SSL Inspection, Network Certificates, DLP, Routing Methodology (PAC, Direct, etc.).

Private Access: Secure Internal Tools.

Digital Experience: End-User Support, Logging.

Cloud Networking:

AWS: Transit Gateways, Routing Tables, Security Gateways, Route53.

Azure: Cloud infrastructure and services.

GCP: Google Cloud Platform services and integration.

Project Leadership:

Lead and manage projects related to all the responsibilities mentioned.

Source additional resources for large-scale projects when necessary.

Communicate changes and updates to stakeholders.

Roll out significant impact changes with well-defined plans.

Documentation:

Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.

Ensure documentation accuracy and regular updates.

Network Design and Implementation:

Design and implement network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless networks.

Ensure network availability, reliability, and security.

Network Monitoring and Optimization:

Monitor network performance and identify and resolve network issues.

Implement optimization strategies to improve network efficiency and performance.

Network Security:

Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, VPNs, and access control policies.

Conduct regular security audits and assessments.

Network Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and resolve network problems, including connectivity issues, performance degradation, and network outages.

Analyze network traffic and use diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues.

Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users and other IT teams.

Resolve network-related incidents and service requests within agreed-upon service level agreements (SLAs).

Network Upgrades and Expansion:

Plan and execute network upgrades, expansions, and migrations.

Assess network capacity and performance requirements and implement necessary changes to support business growth.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, application developers, and security teams, to ensure effective integration and operation of network infrastructure.

Policy and Compliance:

Develop and enforce network policies, procedures, and best practices.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and security requirements.

You should have:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, technical certifications, and strong technical skills in network architecture, protocols, security, and troubleshooting.

Experience in network design, implementation, and security measures.

Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with team members and stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for diagnosing and resolving complex network issues.

Project management skills, attention to detail, and a continuous learning mindset.

Technical expertise, problem-solving skills, communication abilities, and a commitment to continuous learning to effectively design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure.

Network+ or Vendor-Specific Network Certificate (CCNA, FSNA, etc.).

CompTIA Security+ Certificate (preferred).

Strong understanding of Zscaler (Zscaler certification highly recommended).

Strong knowledge of Cloud Networking (AWS certification highly recommended, GCP, Azure).

Strong understanding of Palo Alto Networks (PAN certification highly recommended).

Compensation Pay Range:

$114,889.00 - $132,000.00

Salary Information

The base salary range is specific to the United States.  The salary of the final candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, work location, specialty and training.  If the final candidate has a different level of experience, the base salary target range may be lower or higher than what is published.
