Job Summary

Plan, design and engineer Metro-optical transport and regional network, which include MP-BGP, Layer II & Layer III VPN technologies, and MPLS/VPLS technologies. Conduct and participate in the evaluation and validation of new equipment, software releases, and document procedures for implementation in the network infrastructure. Implement SD-WAN solutions with various underlay technologies including LTE/MPLS/HFC Networks. Work with team to build/re-use open source or common systems wherever possible to accelerate development and delivery of new services and value-added features in production network. Provide diagnosis, resolution, and documentation in all aspects of supporting, implementing and managing a core network environment consisting of IOS-XR, IOS and Junos OS. Resolve hardware and software network problems in a timely and accurate manner. Provide engineering guidelines and Network Support to Fulfillment and Operations to roll out new hardware and services to our customers. Work with the Application Support team to capture new product requirements in Netcracker and defining the parameters needed for service activation. Perform failure analysis of all service impacting hardware, software, and application related failures.

Responsibilities Performs engineering activities with specific knowledge and skills associated with the following technologies:  IP Routing Protocols: OSPF, ISIS, BGP.  IP Protocols used to deliver multicast traffic (IGMP, PIM).  Multi-Protocol Technologies: LDP, RSVP.  IP Protocols: TCP, UDP.  Ethernet Technologies: gigE, 10 gigE, VLANs, 802.1Q (VLAN tagging), 802.1P (layer 2 QoS), VRRP, HSRP.  QoS Capabilities: classification, marking, queuing, policing.  IP Backbone capacity management.  Core IP routing technologies and vendors, specifically Cisco and Juniper. IPv4 and IPv6 subnetting.  Develops and executes detailed network designs, specifications, and architectural plans for IP Backbone architectures in support service provider infrastructure. Designs include but are not limited to various BGP, OSPF, RSVP, LDP, and QoS architectures.  Creates test plans; tests and validates functionality, management and performance for existing and new technologies supporting metro IP architectures. Designs include but are not limited to various BGP, OSPF, ISIS, LDP, QoS and MPLS-TE architectures. Designs and tests for IP service integration. Designs include various voice, video, and data over IP services that must function over the nationwide IP network.  Determines, tests and validates code functionality to be used in the production network for all IP routers and various Ethernet switches across multiple vendors.  Conducts equipment evaluations, equipment selection, pilot testing and network designs to ensure reliability and scaled expansion of the network.  Makes specific recommendations and assists in implementation of plans that enhance technical operation, compliance with rules and regulations, and permit the deployment of new technology.  Supports deployments of new IP services, systems, applications and architectures with installation, configuration, integration, evaluation, testing, documentation, and training.  Partners with change management for impact identification, network validation, MOP creation and execution of activities.  Define and compile the methods of procedures and documentation to support personnel in the installation, maintenance, and removal of network equipment.  Provides detailed engineering support and consultation to other departments.  Coordinates with regions to ensure the network is available and configured to exceed market demands.  Facilitates communications with employees and other departments by holding or attending meetings, preparing reports, and participating on task forces.  Apply best practices pertaining to router security design authentication, access-lists, and control plane protection. Proactively identifies ways to improve process and procedures; makes recommendations to management.  Shares technical knowledge and skills with other team members to develop team members’ capabilities.  Act as an escalation from our NOC for customer related issues. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience Experience working in a Service Provider environment with a focus on commercial services Scripting languages a plus. (BASH, Python, PHP, etc.) Experience with routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, ISIS). CCNP or equivalent Knowledge of MPLS (L2VPN and L3VPN) Understanding of Metro Ethernet services. CECP2.0/3.0 Certification a plus Knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6. Understanding of ARIN rules and guidelines for ISP desired Good writing and documentation skills. Experience writing Engineering guidelines and procedures A background in Systems Integration and Element Management Systems a plus Familiarity of fiber optic technology and transport networks Good Interpersonal Skills. Must be able to work in both an individual and team capacity Project Management skills a plus Able to lift up to 30 lbs. Ability to work as a team player Candidate must show ability to logically work through issues, communicate to management as well as have experience in troubleshooting Network outages while being under pressure Flexible working hours, 24 hours on call systems support. Ability to work during maintenance windows
