Network Engineer
Description The Network Engineer in Refining Network Operations will be responsible for providing network and technical support for the refinery’s business network servers and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of business needs and be able to translate those needs into effective solutions. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to address challenges and develop solutions. The candidate will also play a key role in promoting compliance and driving change initiatives to enhance the reliability and security of infrastructure services. Adherence to refinery safety protocols is a fundamental expectation of this role. • This position will require some travel ~30% and field work inside the refinery process units. • Employee must be able to obtain a TWIC. • Experience with Cisco devices required and Cisco certifications a plus. • Experience with Arista devices a plus. Key Responsibilities • Primary responsibilities include network administration and troubleshooting for Layer 2 switching with some occasional Layer 3 work, monitoring network device health and identifying issues using common industry toolsets including identifying and analyzing security issues, planning and implementing hardware refresh of network equipment, maintaining up-to-date documentation for the network and creating and presenting documentation for capital and expense projects. • Problem tracking, management, and resolution of issues in a 24/7 manufacturing location. The employee will be called upon to perform duties during off-hours on occasion as needed. • This position works extensively with the virtual Refining IT Network team as well as Corporate Enterprise Network Services therefore strong communication skills and adherence to company standard practices are required. • Daily activities may also include network device backup administration, performance tuning, change control administration, network security detection administration, formulating continuous improvement opportunities, and self-auditing to ensure compliance with standards. • Studies and analyzes business problems and assists in deriving and evaluating alternative solutions. • Applies appropriate methodologies to ensure a timely and cost-effective solution to business problems. • Participates in testing a system or solution (or change thereto) prior to placing it in effect to ensure that it complies with all standards, and that all functions are working correctly. • Develops a working understanding of other important information technology tools and utilizes such tools to enhance the quality of work performed or services provided. • Develops the expertise needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of changes to the specialized systems that result in solving specific business problems. Recommends improvements to take advantage of technical changes. • Performs root cause analysis of network problems and tracks, documents and reports identified patterns. • Prepares and reviews documentation including network diagrams. • Performs routine and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure uninterrupted and optimum system performance. • Execute system administration and other recurring tasks, including network device maintenance and back-ups. • Delivers system support to users and serves as a liaison to vendor technical staff.
