A week in the life of a Network Engineer:

Designs and implements computer and information networks. Performs network modeling, analysis, and planning. Researches and recommends network and data communications hardware and software. Implement data security systems such as firewalls, virus protection software and data backups. Provides technical guidance for directing and monitoring information systems network operations. Troubleshoots network performance issues. Analyzes network traffic and provides capacity planning solutions. Monitors and responds to technical control network hardware and software problems. Interfaces with vendor service groups to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. Manages the testing, installation, and support of network communications systems. Performs system-level design and configuration of products.
