Network Engineer II

Position Title:   Network Engineer II 

Department:      Information Technology

Reports to:        Director of Networking, Communication & System Services

Appointment:    Full-Time: 40 hours per week/12 months

Status:               Exempt

The Communication and Engineering Services Network Engineer is responsible for the planning, operation, support, administration, and maintenance of Bradley University’s LAN and Wireless Resources.  The Network Engineer is a key player in the installation, administration, and support of the campus Switched Ethernet network and directly supports the campus wired and wireless network infrastructure.  The Network Engineer works closely with other IT departments and Information Security to ensure that the campus infrastructure complies with industry standards.  This is an on campus role, remote work is not available.

The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Configure, install, administer, troubleshoot, and support network equipment, cabling, traffic shaping, VPN, remote support (e.g., Peoria Next and Shea Stadium), and other resource demands as needed by the University.Work with users and other IT staff to resolve problems with networked computing resources, wireless resources and configuration issues.Monitor the health of campus networking equipment.  Anticipate resource problems and bottlenecks, identify solutions to problems, and implement the solutions with minimal service disruption.Assist in maintaining statistics, reports, inventory, and network maps.Assist with recommending new network equipment to use in the University's Enterprise Cisco Network.  The individual will maintain close ties with vendors to get the best available pricing on hardware and licensing for purchases and will plan and budget equipment replacement cycles.Occasional “on-call” or off-hour work will be required and rotated with other Network Staff within IT.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering and three years of experience in network computing. Self-motivated, willing to work in a team environment, and possess strong interpersonal communication and project management skills.  Working knowledge of IP, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, switched Ethernet, and LAN design.  Proficient with Cisco Catalyst switches, TFTP, SSH/Telnet, Network Sniffing tools, Cisco Wireless Controllers, and Cisco Prime as well as Cisco LWAPP Wireless Access Points. 

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience in network computing supporting a large campus environment.  CCNA/CCNP certification.
