OverviewThe Network Engineer II’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of data and voice networks. This is achieved by planning, designing, and implementing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.
ResponsibilitiesDesigns and deploys company LANs, WANs including routers, switches, firewalls, VPN concentrators, wireless, and other hardwareConfigures networks to ensure efficient and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.Monitors network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as neededCreates and maintains documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service recordsMonitors ticketing queue, responds to incidents in a timely manner, documents solutionEnsures network connectivity of all servers, workstations, and other network appliancesDevelops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recoveryConducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industryManages all network security solutions in accordance to industry best practicesProvides guidance to junior members of the teamParticipates in after hours, on-call rotation as neededNotifies end users of planned network outages / maintenance, work with providers to understand impact and timeline of provider outagesProvides backup coverage for other functions including systems administration, virtualization, storage, and telephony Qualifications
Required Qualifications
BS/BAs degree in IT or related field (Industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree)At least 5 years of experience in similar role Network focused industry certificationsCertifications in Juniper, Cisco, Microsoft, or equivalentProven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practicesNetwork monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, Paessler, or SplunkDisaster Recovery planning/testingExpert level knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 devicesHigh-level knowledge of QoS, MPLS, Ethernet, VLAN’s, routing protocolsPrevious experience supporting a multi-site, interconnected network environment with 500+ employeesExcellent hardware troubleshooting experienceStrong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skillsAbility to present ideas in user-friendly languageHighly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detailProven analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAble to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environmentStrong customer service orientationExperience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
