Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Designs and develops new LAN/WAN architecture and/or modifies existing network infrastructure to achieve optimal and efficient performance, reliability, and security; develops all documentation and procedures required for Citywide project implementations, ongoing operations, and support of such systems; Manages and maintains the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system, working with Voice Gateways, routing, and switching of VoIP data packets; Configures, implements, and manages routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies such as wireless LAN, Point-to-Point, and Point-to-MultiPoint for remote site connectivity; works with wireless controllers for the management of the wireless devices; Utilizing the network management system (NMS) and other tools, diagnoses, and resolves complex network issues; designs, implements, and monitors the operation of intra-site, inter-site, and external data connectivity solutions; closes help desk tickets as problems or maintenance work are resolved or completed; Performs analysis of performance, integrity, connectivity, reliability, and availability of servers and network hardware; and supervises the installation, upgrades, and maintenance to such; Supervises assigned staff involved in network infrastructure support; coaches network technicians (personnel) in the performance of their duties raising their overall technical knowledge; Manages projects dealing with new technologies and major enhancements/upgrades to the network infrastructure, network security, performance, and other related issues; Oversees and performs advanced-level configuration to ensure optimal and efficient network infrastructure and performance; Works with IT security personnel to develop policies and procedures to increase and/or enhance IT security; performs risk analysis of network infrastructure; Recommends, designs, and implements measures to minimize network vulnerabilities in data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience in network infrastructure engineering, analysis, support, or administration in a multi-user environment. Substitution(s): Additional experience as listed above may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. OR Possession of a valid Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or higher/comparable certification, and six (6) years of experience as listed above.
