Network Operations Engineer
IBM
Responsible for documenting incidents and problems per the IBM Cloud IaaS Network Services standards and practices. Serves as a technical expert in troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution of networking issues which include switches and routers belonging to Cisco, Arista Juniper etc. Should be conversant with various networking protocols/technologies and should have hands-on experience with various network support tools. Candidate should be able to make decisions based on risk, best practice and business need and clearly articulate the decision points and should have excellent written (including documentation) and verbal (communication) skills. Candidate should be willing to work shift (US day shift) and should be passionate about network automation to remove toil from regular work.
ResponsibilitiesProperly document incidents and problems per the IBM Cloud IaaS Network Services standards and practices.Effectively communicate during an event or maintenance to internal groups the nature of the event when called uponProperly document changes via IBM Cloud IaaS Network Services standards Effective monitoring of the alerts board Work in Arista and Cisco Switch and routers for example devices: DCS-7050TX-64-R DCS-7048T-A-R DCS-7050QX-32-R Cisco Nexus 3ks Cisco Cat3750s Module swaps for Arista, Juniper, and Cisco gear for example devices: Juniper MX 960, 480 platforms Cisco Nexus 7k Cisco Nexus and Catalyst switching hardwareInclination towards automation using Python and good in logical reasoning Internal interconnect between network devices troubleshooting External Circuit connectivity troubleshoot with external vendors like CenturyLink, At&t, Telstra, etc.Should have hands-on experience with Network support tools such as WireShark, TCPDump, SmokePing, dig, iperf, MTR, etc. Should have good skills in troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution of networking issues Should have good/hands-on understating of network protocols/technologies: Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), IPv4/6, Internet Protocol Security (IPSec VPN), Server Load Balancing Should have good understanding and hands-on experience of common Internet protocols such as DNS, NTP, LDAP and GSLBThe engineer should have the ability and preference to operate with autonomy, ability to change focus when needed, often multiple times within a work weekShould have solid experience creating technical documentation for current and future state network support needsAbility to make decisions based on risk, best practice and business need and clearly articulate the decision pointsExperience with both Windows and Unix (Linux/FreeBSD) serversExposure to global network design and managementAn urge to take ownership of issues and drive the best-known solution into the discussions for the long-term goals of said projects
