Location: Bowling Green, KY Category: Staff Posted On: Fri Jan 17 2025 Job Description: Purpose of Position As a member of the Network Services team, the Network Specialist position configures, implements, documents, and maintains network and voice equipment, systems, and applications. Their services extend primarily across access and wireless infrastructure. The Network Services team is essential to the proper operation of the University's network and communications services through the provisioning of customer-facing services, as well as technical support to auxiliary and core groups within the Information Technology Services unit and the university. This position reports to the Lead Network Engineer as a part of the Infrastructure and Operations department.This is not a remote position. Primary Duties and Responsibilities + Supports and maintains a large campus network serving diverse needs + Installs and configures enterprise-grade network switches, wireless access points, and routers + Diagnoses and resolves network-related problems + Maintains network and voice documentation and operates supporting systems including, but not limited to, network management, security, authentication, and voice-related systems + On-call responses for network outages and network-related issues. "Off-hours" schedule flexibility for planned or emergency work as needed. The position is expected to maintain adequate internet connectivity from their residence. + Coordinates with internal and external groups to resolve technical issues + Assists with research, planning, testing, and implementation of new technologies and services Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success + Good analytical and organizational skills + A methodical and highly detail-oriented mindset + Excellent time management and multitasking skills to complete deliverables according to schedule + Ability to work independently, one-on-one, or with a team + Must be motivated and take the initiative when appropriate, but involve others as needed. + Ability and willingness to learn new skills as needed, many times as a self-study endeavor + Excellent and demonstrable troubleshooting and diagnostics skills + Exceptional customer service skills + Work experience with enterprise wired/wireless deployments + Work experience with the topics represented by these terms: Ethernet, IP, VLAN, SNMP, DNS, DHCP Job Requirements: + Bachelor's Degree + Minimum of two years of recent work experience + Experience with enterprise network equipment such as Cisco + Prospective candidates must be able to work from a ladder, lift up to 50 lbs, and have a functional knowledge of basic hand tools.
