Job Summary
The Network Specialist is integral to the Global Technology network team, providing essential operational and technical support for the management and maintenance of the enterprise network infrastructure. This role involves collaborating on complex technical tasks, including the resolution of network-related issues, assisting with the procurement and documentation of network circuits, maintaining up-to-date ISP contact and escalation procedures, and ensuring the accuracy of site documentation. The specialist will also monitor inventory levels, undertake the staging and configuration of network hardware, and leverage network monitoring tools to ensure optimal performance. This position requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the capability to work effectively within the GT team framework.
Specific Expected Contributions
Operational Support:Provide logistical assistance and resource coordination for team projects.Lead troubleshooting efforts.Responds to, solves, and makes decisions on routine or non-routine business network requests with limited to moderate risk.Quickly resolve customer incidents and problemsFollow best practices for supported technology.Configure network equipment and/or implement network related tasks such as firmware upgrades, firewall and network changes, equipment deployment, and configuration changes.Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support.Work with network leadership to ensure services are optimally structured to provide defined service levels for:UptimeStabilityPerformanceQualityEnsure compliance with company policies and assist in preparing documentation for audits.Assist with clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and organizing records.Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive network information.Performs other duties as appropriate. Processing and Tracking:Handle network circuit orders, renewals, and cancellations.Maintain accurate records of circuit order statuses and updates.Coordination:Contributes to team, department and/or business results by performing complex quantitative and qualitative analysis for business processes and/or projects. Often manages small projects, business processes or parts of larger ones.Responds to, solves, and makes decisions on more complex/non-routine business requests with limited to moderate risk.Schedule circuit installations and maintenance with service providers.Work under the guidance of senior network staff.Documentation:Organize and maintain comprehensive documentation for all network circuits.Update site documentation (network diagrams, equipment lists) as directed.Ensure documentation is properly filed and accessible to the IT team.Inventory Management:Manage and track inventory levels.Assist with connecting and staging network equipment in the Lakeland Lab.Prepare and ship network equipment for various initiatives and project deadlines.ISP Coordination:Update and maintain contact lists for Internet Service Providers (ISPs).Ensure escalation procedures are current.Aid in routine communications with ISPs, including scheduling and information requests.Support senior staff during coordination with ISPs for outages and maintenance activities.Network Monitoring Tools:Update user accounts, settings, and access permissions.Generate basic reports on network performance and incidents.Monitor alerts and notifications, escalating issues as needed.Specific Candidate Profile
Education
Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field or 2+ years of experience in Networking.Industry certifications preferred: CCNA, JNCAExperience:
