Posting Number ACAD451 Job Title Neurobiology Assistant/Associate Professor Position Title Neurobiology Assistant/Associate Professor Position Type Faculty Number of vacancies 1 Salary 45,000 Department Neurobiology Position Summary The Department of Neurobiology is seeking a Part-Time Faculty member to provide direct mentoring, coaching, and advising to assist students in achieving academic success specifically focused on supporting students in their preparation for certification and licensure examinations.
This position is dedicated to equipping students with the necessary tools and strategies to prepare for the NBME Step 1 and Step 2 examinations and other professional licensure examinations as needed.
This person will serve as the course director for the Directed Studies course for students needing to delay or retake the NBME Step 1 exam. In addition, this person will provide oversight and monitoring of the year-long Step 1 Prep Curriculum for medical students that have elected the Alternative Pathway Program.
This position will also work with students in the Master of Science in Medical Science program on MCAT test-taking skills and strategies.
The person in this position will also have an appointment in the Department of Neurobiology to include student support and teaching responsibilities in Neurobiology. This position will have a pivotal role within our institution, dedicated to supporting the academic success and professional development of medical and other professional students.
Minimum Qualifications Medical Doctor (MD) degree from an accredited institution. Experience in medical education, academic support, or student advising. Strong knowledge of neurobiology and experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. Familiarity with standardized testing (MCAT, USMLE Step 1) and learning theory. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications Board certification or eligibility in a medical specialty related to neurobiology. Previous experience teaching or tutoring medical students in MCAT or Step 1 preparation. Demonstrates the ability to engage students through innovative teaching methods and active learning strategies.

Course Director:
Lead the Self-Directed Studies course, to provide targeted support for students who have delayed or failed the NBME Step 1 example Provide oversight and monitoring of student progress for students enrolled in the Step 1 Prep Curriculum. Collaborate one-on-one with students to formulate personalized study plans tailored to address specific knowledge gaps and deficiencies pertinent to the NBME Step 1 examination. Conduct regular sessions focused on enhancing study skills, time management, and test-taking strategies crucial for Step 1 readiness. Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and adjustment of study plans, ensuring continual improvement and adaptation to evolving needs. Address areas of deficiency in student content knowledge and test-taking skills to support successful completion of Step 1. Develop curriculum materials, study resources, and practice assessments aligned with Step 1 content and objectives. Facilitate small group sessions and individualized coaching to reinforce key concepts and test-taking strategies. Monitor student progress and performance, providing feedback and support to optimize preparation outcomes.
Student Support and Advising:
Conduct regular sessions focused on enhancing study skills, time management, and test-taking strategies to assist students in preparing for the MCAT. Serve as a resource and mentor to MD and graduate students, offering academic guidance and support throughout their educational journey. Assist with study skills development, time management, and test-taking strategies tailored to individual student needs. Collaborate with student support services and academic advisors to address student concerns and promote student success.
Curriculum Development and Enhancement:
Participate in curriculum development and revision initiatives to integrate best practices in medical education and assessment. Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in the delivery of medical education, particularly related to MCAT and Step 1 preparation. Contribute to the development of educational resources and materials to support student learning and achievement.
Part-Time Faculty in Neurobiology:
Develop and teach courses in neurobiology within the department. Deliver engaging lectures, lead discussions, and facilitate laboratory or experiential learning activities. Mentor students pursuing research projects or independent study in neurobiology. Contribute to curriculum development and assessment efforts within the department.
