Neurodiagnostic Technician – Physical Medicine & Rehab Clinic

This job is an Allied health specialty for diagnosing patients with neurological disorders. Under direct supervision of the laboratory supervisor, prepares patients for and conducts neurological testing procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system in at least one of the following modalities, Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM), Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), Transcranial Doppler (TCD), and Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM). Responsible for analyzing and summarizing results. Conforms to all laboratory policies and procedures regarding OSHA and JCAHO guidelines for universal precautions and hospital regulations. Performs other related duties are required.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Education

Required – High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred – Associates degree

Work Experience
Required – None

Preferred – Two years related experience

Certifications

Required – BLS certification, willingness and ability to pursue at least one certification i.e. R.NCS.T, R.EEG.T, R.EP.T, RVS, RCS, CLTM, or CNIM

Preferred-R.NCS.T, R.EEG.T, R.EP.T, RVS, RCS, CLTM, or CNIM

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard. Ability to build and maintain good rapport with patient and staff. Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. Ability to work effectively through changing priorities. Ability to work flexible schedule (extended shifts, nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.).

Job Duties

Demonstrates the ability to perform the duties outlined for Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (END) under supervision. Accurately takes and documents pertinent history from the patient or chart. Sets-up patients for appropriate study, EEG, EP, NCS, TCD or IOM. . Measures/marks and accurately applies recording electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 Electrode placement system. Performs diagnostic studies with appropriate documentation and observation of the patient. Troubleshooting equipment and physiological artifacts, distinguishing normal from abnormal and utilizing appropriate resources to perform study. Knowledge of basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment, including electrodes/probes. Demonstrates responsibility for professional development and maintaining required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials. Other related duties as required.

The physical essential functions of this job include (but are not limited to) the following:  Frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
