**Job Summary**
The Neurophysiology Technician will perform Nerve Conduction Studies through specialized equipment under the direction of the neurologist. The Neurophysiology Technician will perform EEGs according to hospital protocol and guidelines. Assumes responsibility and accountability for patients in the department and provides care to these patients through assessment, observation and documentation. They will assist with scheduling, charging, and overall data maintenance and will also serve in a similar capacity as a Medical Assistant to the Neurologist.
**Essential Functions**
+ Performs EEGs following ASET standards.
+ Performs Nerve Conduction Studies under direction of the neurologist.
+ Assesses and evaluates procedure validity continuously.
+ Obtains complete and accurate medical histories.
+ Conducts exams like electro cerebral silence (ECS).
+ Maintains SOPs for EEG recording and notify supervisors of conflicts.
+ Follows infection control and safety guidelines.
+ Uses and maintains equipment and supplies .
+ Communicates effectively with patients, families, and physicians.
+ Educates patients, families, and staff as needed.
+ Ensures compliance with state, Joint Commission and other standards.
+ Assisst new employees and participate in ongoing education.
+ Maintains current BLS certification and seek supervision as needed
+ Completes administrative tasks like assembling files and maintaining logs
+ Designs and implements in-service programs. Performs exams such as electro cerebral silence (ECS).
+ Communicates physicians’ order conflicts with standard procedure.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ Technical School completion of a two year EEG program at an accredited school required
+ 1-2 years experience Neurophysiology Technician preferred
+ 1-2 years Experience performing Nerve Conduction Studies preferred
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Must display excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills. Must have ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and effectively control departmental work flow.
+ Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to address issues in tactful and timely manner to patients, families and hospital personnel.
+ Attention to detail and concentrations
+ Ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environments
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ Registration with the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologist (ABRET) R. EEG T. required
+ BLS CPR Certification within 3 months of hire date
