Job Summary The Division of Extension and Engagement’s Partnerships Unit is seeking a New Beginnings for Tribal Students Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position with grant funding through August 31, 2027. Due to funding, OSU will not sponsor immigration work authorization for this position (e.g. H-1B, etc.) This Outreach Program Coordinator (coordinator) is a member of the OSU Division of Extension and Engagement’s (division) Partnerships Unit which includes Juntos, Open Campus, and Native & Tribal Programs. The Associate Vice Provost for Partnerships supervises this New Beginnings for Tribal Students Coordinator. This position is funded by the New Beginnings for Tribal Students ( NBTS ) grant. This NBTS grant is expected to be funded through August 31, 2027. The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture makes available competitive grants to land-grant colleges and universities to provide support specifically for Tribal students. This New Beginnings for Tribal Students Coordinator assists and collaborates with Open Campus and Juntos leadership to meet the needs of Native and Tribal communities and students as well as assists with providing culturally responsive programming and outreach services to engage Native students and families. The primary outreach responsibilities of this position: + engagement of OSU undergraduate students with the NBTS program recruitment; and + engagement of high school age youth with the annual Indigenous Youth Camp. This NBTS Coordinator works as a team to design, develop, maintain and/or carry out educational programming and outreach activities to serve Native and Tribal communities and students in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations. About the Partnerships Unit: The Division of Extension and Engagement’s Partnerships Unit works in collaboration with Oregon State University, the Association of Oregon Counties, Oregon’s Community Colleges, regional economic development groups, the K-12 education systems, the business communities and local government. Key Responsibilities 50% – Coordination of the New Beginnings for Tribal Students ( NBTS ) Grant Student Engagement and Program Coordination + Lead outreach efforts to recruit Indigenous undergraduate students for the NBTS summer mentorship cohort. + Coordinate and guide summer cohort activities, ensuring an engaging and supportive experience for participants. + Create accessible environments that make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations. + Assist students in identifying mentors and securing internships, as needed. + Administer payments for student stipends and reimbursements for conference participation. Program and Event Leadership + Plan and implement the annual Cultural Awareness and Mentor Training Seminar to enhance cultural competency and mentor-student relationships. + Collaborate with NBTS steering committee members to review and update the Evaluation Plan, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives. Grant and Budget Management + Develop a strong understanding of the NBTS grant and budget framework. + Work with OSU Extension financial officers to track expenses and provide budget updates to the NBTS steering committee and program leadership. + Facilitate Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with grant partners, including Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians; Chemeketa Community College; and potential new partners. Steering Committee Coordination + Coordinate quarterly NBTS steering committee meetings, including logistics, agenda planning, and follow-up: + Record detailed meeting notes with action items. + Communicate follow-up items to committee members. + Organize sub-committee meetings, as needed. + Provide updates to the steering committee and USDA - NIFA on program achievements, plans, and challenges. + Seek guidance from the steering committee on outreach, networking, and problem-solving. Networking and National Engagement + Represent OSU Extension by attending national NBTS committee meetings to stay informed of program developments and share successes. 25% – Program Development, Student Outreach, and Relationships + Network with other OSU programs and participate in in-person events on campus supporting Indigenous students and to conduct outreach for NBTS , recruit applicants. + Develop in-person events for current and past NBTS students. I.e., an optional field trip on a weekend in the summer, NBTS program celebration in September. + Chaperone/mentor students attending science conferences. + Keep campus ‘office hours’ when students can drop in for advising, mentoring and other support. + Network across campus, and beyond, to grow the NBTS program. + Work with a team to develop a vetted on-line learning module for mentors and others working with Indigenous students, tailored to NBTS needs. + Work with Tribes to connect students to opportunities for internships and employment with Tribes. 20% – Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation of Annual Indigenous Youth Summer Camp + Lead planning of the Indigenous Youth Summer Camp in partnership with OSU Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Sciences Department’s Environmental Leadership for Youth program. + Coordinate monthly planning team meetings including primary planning partner, CTCLUSI and other steering committee members. + Curate youth roster and communication with families. + Lead camp implementation and evaluation. + Seek funding to support the camp in future years. 5% – Meetings & Trainingsand Other Duties + Attend scheduled Partnerships Unit meetings and trainings. + Attend training opportunities to build basic knowledge and consistent skills to use digital communications, marketing and engagement technologies relevant to position duties. + Complete the division’s civil rights training session(s). + Performs other duties as assigned. What You Will Need + Bachelor’s Degree with a field related to the assignment of this position. + Three (3) years of work experience (paid or volunteer) supporting community programs that serve children, youth or adults. + Experience engaging Native Americans audiences by applying understanding of cultural traditions and norms. + Life or work experience demonstrating an understanding of Tribal sovereignty, Tribal history locally/nationally, and self-determination in the Pacific Northwest. + A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming. + Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate successfully with a diverse audience. + Demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences. + General knowledge and ability to use computers, including proficiency with information technology, professional office software and collaborative work platforms. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. What We Would Like You to Have + Demonstrable experience working in college access programs, particularly with students from diverse backgrounds. + Experience working on nationally funded grant programs. + Experience working with youth programs, particularly with a trauma-informed lens. + Working knowledge of the Oregon K-12 and higher education systems. Working Conditions / Work Schedule This position requires the ability to travel with the OSU Partnerships Tribal Program Director or other members of the OSU Partnerships Unit to sites in Oregon.
