The Transition to Practice Nurse Residency Program, is designed to extend the basic education and skills of the graduate nurse and support them in the transition to a professional nurse over the course of a 12-month program. The residency focuses on providing a culture where professional growth and learning is prioritized and supported. Our nurse residents are the future of healthcare in our community which is why it is important to provide them the tools, training, and support they need for their success as they begin a new career.
Program Overview:
Proven, evidence-based 12-month program, with full-time commitmentStandardized orientation schedule comprised of organizational onboarding, skill acquisition, and medical-surgical rotation Skill acquisition rotations designed to provide foundational learning experiences and build confidence prior to caring for a patient assignment based on quality safety initiativesPaired with a trained preceptor for the integration and socialization in the culture of professional nursingProvide direct patient care in an acute care setting maintaining a culture where professional growth and learning is fostered in a safe and trustful environmentSupport from experienced mentors, educators, and leadershipImproving prioritization and organizational skills as well as self-confidence in patient assessments, foundational interventions, and psychomotor skills Professional Development Sessions focused on clinical judgment, knowledge application and professional growth as well as facilitated debriefings throughout the 12-month programCreation of an evidence-based project designed to integrate nurse residents into a professional career as a lifelong learnerand professional growth as well as facilitated debriefings throughout the 12-monthOrganizational Incentives:

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the acute care setting using time management skills to care for patientsObtains nursing history, performs nursing assessment and develops plan of care for patientsDemonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical conditionTreats patients and their families with respect and dignityIdentifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their familiesFunctions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providersDemonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population servedConsults other health team members/departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needsDocumentation meets current standards and policiesManages and operates equipment safely and correctlyCoordinates and supervises patient care as necessaryDemonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situationsMaintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standardsEnhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing educationCompletes competency-based orientationEducating and advocating for our patients.
