Our New Graduate Nurse Residency program delivers nursing orientation and organizational socialization within the profession. **About the New Graduate Nurse Program:**
Our New Graduate Nurse Residency is a year-long program designed to support new nurses during their transition into professional practice with competence, confidence and leadership skills while fostering lifelong learning and career development.
**The program includes:**
+ **18-28 weeks of practice-based orientation** focused on hands-on clinical training, where new nurses work closely with experienced preceptors to build their skills gradually.
+ Work beside your peers on **Professional Development** activities, including workshops and courses, and the completion of an **Evidence-Based Project** .
+ Ongoing **mentorship beyond the first year** to continue professional growth and support.
* Please Note: Participants must pass the NCLEX and achieve a Registered Nurse license before the Residency Cohort start date. Provisional Licensure not accepted.

**Responsibilities**
A CommonSpirit Health Nurse Resident is a **new graduate** direct clinical care registered nurse (RN) who continues to develop nursing knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors introduced in formal education as they **transition into practice** . They are expected to demonstrate the appropriate competency in both core and functional areas, listed below.
Progression is expected in the areas of leading through mission vision and values, patient/customer focus, taking ownership, health care knowledge, teamwork, clinical performance improvement, service excellence, decision making and critical thinking, and patient safety.

1. **_Evidence-based Practice (EBP) and Patient Care:_** Builds skills to utilize current evidence based practice knowledge, the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals across the lifespan and care continuum.
2. I **_nterprofessional Collaboration and Communication:_** **Learns to** collaborate and communicate with the interprofessional team to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
3. **_Leadership:_** **Develops** accountability for own practice, delegated care, and the coordination of care delivery. Behaves in a manner that supports colleagues, and maintains respect, trust and dignity.
4. **_Professionalism:_** **Acquires and maintains knowledge in nursing practice and assumes responsibility for the professional development of self.**

1. **_Taking Ownership:_** Has a basic understanding and knowledge of the current situation or issue at hand; ability to take full personal responsibility or ownership for assignments, activities, decisions and results.

3. **_Patient / Customer Focus:_** Basic understanding ensuring that the patient/customer perspective is a driving force behind our actions and business decisions; crafting and implementing service practices that meet patients'/customers’ and own organization’s needs. (Focus also includes internal and external customers.)
4. **_Leading through Mission, Vision and Values:_** Basic understanding keeping the organization’s mission, vision and values at the forefront of associate decision making and action.
5. **_Effective communication:_** Basic understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
6. **_Patient Safety:_** Basic understanding and knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
7. **_Clinical Performance Improvement:_** Basic understanding and knowledge of the factors contributing to quality patient care, and the ability to influence these factors in a positive way.
8. **_Continuous Learning:_** Basic understanding of the rationale behind the necessity to continually learn and grow and the ability to seek performance feedback and identify approaches to improve one's own performance and that of others.

11. **_Healthcare Knowledge:_** Basic understanding and knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.
12. **_Nursing Assessment and Care:_** Basic understanding of and ability to assess ailments and injuries of patients and implement a treatment plan.
13. **_Decision-Making and Critical Thinking:_** Basic understanding and knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
14. **_Clinical Skills:_** Basic understanding of and ability to provide clinical skills necessary for patient care, e.g. history taking, therapeutic planning and monitoring, etc., to achieve optimized outcomes in medication therapy and clinical treatment.
**Qualifications**
**Required Education and Experience:**
+ Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
+ 0-12 months of professional nursing (RN) experience
**Required Licensure and Certifications:**
+ Active License as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State in which s/he will be practicing or the state of primary residency if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state
+ BLS certification - American Heart Association
+ Additional certifications may be required based on population(s) served and services provided
**Pay Range**
$30.00 - $43.50 /hour
