The part-time Multifaith Coordinator will support multifaith life at New York University (NYU) by serving as a guide, mentor, and advocate for students. They will most directly serve our Hindu student community while also tending to the needs of Jain, Sikh, Bhakti, and Buddhist students. Through student programming, leadership development, community care, and education, they support the flourishing of South and Southeast Asian religious life at NYU and the multifaith imperatives of the Center for Global Spiritual Life.
The Multifaith Coordinator will build on existing connections on campus and across NYU in all relevant areas and develop new relationships as appropriate, especially with others who are responsible for caring for students and religious student clubs.
This is a part-time position (20 hours per week).
Role and Responsibility:
+ Develop multifaith and spiritual programming and learning opportunities that are inclusive of all faith traditions on campus. Programs should focus on religious literacy, interfaith community building, and normalizing the experiences of students of faith.
+ Cultivate relationships with each of the colleges to provide tailored GSL resources and support to their respective student bodies.
+ Participate in regularly scheduled stakeholder meetings (e.g. Campus Religious Centers).
+ Facilitate workshops, develop curriculum, and teach in cohort learning programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Training and/or ordination in one of the above-mentioned religious traditions.
+ Master's degree; field of study for degree in Religion, Theology, Education, or related field.
+ Ordination or Endorsement is preferred.
+ A welcoming, Global Inclusion, Diversity, Belonging, Equity, and Access (IDBEA)-centered theological paradigm and desire to work in a multi-faith environment.
+ Demonstrated commitment to racial justice.
+ An enthusiastic interest in exploring multifaith and interfaith community engagement within the ever-shifting context of higher education.
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively with college students and with individuals of diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
+ Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies within the university and beyond.
+ Strong leadership skills and ability to be an effective community builder.
+ Skills in counseling, crisis management, and conflict resolution.
+ Knowledge of diverse religious and spiritual traditions.
